Context: The context between this was that when Bob had first met Ivan, he described him as so big that just squeezing his fingers would make him into a puppy balloon.

Metaphor: "The Tornado left a random path of misery" (Applegate 154)
Context:
What happened was that after the Tornado has came and took off, Bob described the Tornado to be leaving a trail of misery.

Hyperbole: “I can practically taste the storm with an open window” (Applegate 39)
Context: In the story, there was going to be a very slow hurricane for the third time this season so Bob (the dog) stated that he can practically taste the storm which he can’t actually do so it’s an extreme exaggeration.

Irony: “And don’t get me started on their —ahem—odor” (Applegate 35)
Context: The context behind this was when a Bob started describing humans and how he mentioned that their order is unliked by him. You can infer that he doesn’t like it. The reason this is irony is because that dogs are usually stereotyped into being smelly so a dog thinking human odor is smelly is ironic.

Personification: “Gray clouds galloping like panicked horses” (Applegate 83)
Context:  This was when Bob was heading into the park as he looked up and saw the clouds to be galloping which clouds can’t actually do.

Foreshadowing: “Before I woke up, I’d been dreaming about Ivan and Ruby and Stella…

It wasn’t a nice dream, a fun-and-run toe twitcher.

Nope. This one was a nightmare. A bad one.” (Applegate 36)
Note & Context: Although I haven’t read the whole book, I can tell that this will foreshadow somewhere in the book. The word means according to the book is a "circular dance performed by dogs before settling into bed".
This is a type of behavior Bob does as he calls it the "Bed Boogie wen he goes to bed.

Multiple Perspectives: The Humans and The Animals
Multiple perspectives in the story include the perspectives of animals and a few humans. Bob sees some of the humans to be awful or trashy and ironically smelly. Some humans however (inferencing) see dogs to be smelly or dirty judging on how the actions they have done to Bob and his siblings.
Another perspective are the other animals. They can think, hear, see, speak and taste just like any animal but when they communicate to other animals, only other animals can hear what they're saying.

Overtime: Hail Storm
When Bob was at the zoo just as he was leaving with Julia, a hailstorm has appeared which sends animals to there dens and humans to homes. The harsh winds blew Bob in which Bob thought he was flying but just as the Hailstorm ended, a whole lot of damage was done as well as a tornado that went by and has done a trail of damage to the zoo which leaves destruction and devastation upon the animals.

Patterns: Save of the Zoo
After the destruction of the zoo, Bob decided to walk through the wasteland and destructions of the zoo to find remaining animals who needed help. A pattern was that each time he found an animal that really needed help in the zoo, he would accept there quest did what they needed help with such as when he had found Kudzoo and saved him.

Trends: A Mark of The Humans

According to the text, he stated “Why should I forgive humans who tossed me and my siblings into the night? When you forgive, you lose your anger… you can get weak… And when you”re weak, you can get hurt all over again” (Applegate 82). This proves that Bob is sensitive because if something scarred him for life as a memory, he will be sensitive to what or who that has scarred him and just like how in the quote, he will never forgive a human. (A little note but I think he will change throughout his story and see that some humans are good. Inference: I can infer that Bob is very infuriated that he has to forgive humans that have tossed his family into the night. He also states that forgiving makes you lose anger and become weaker so I can also infer that he is having a hard time with humans and won’t forgive them.

Strong Thoughts: Life can be very hard when it comes to the person you hate the most. They could do the most cruel thing and you would have to forgive them. Sometimes, you have to accept life the way it is and no matter what they are, who they are, what they did, you will someday have to forgive them even.
