Parks stood up for all of the African American people for their right to sit anywhere on the bus. This might seem not as important as the Quaker petition against slavery but it really is. For instance, I did not know about a recent protest this year in North Dakota which was one of the largest Native American protests in history. An oil pipeline was threatened to disrupt sacred Native American sites and major water sources, therefore thousands of people stood together and plead for the government to take action. If people are rioting through the streets demanding things, no one will listen and they will focus more on the damage than the cause.
