Autism rates have risen dramatically, in 1992 and later there is an expected 1/150 kids will have autism. That it is a dramatic increase from the earlier years where only about 1/10000 would be diagnosed. They believe this is do to vaccinations and parents are very worried. Scientists are still studying vaccinations and seeing if they could cause autism.

In 1998, Andrew Wakefield and colleagues made a hypothesis. That hypothesis was that the MMR vaccine was harmful to the brain. 8 out of 12 children given the vaccine had autism.

There is strong belief that vaccines are a direct link to autism. Contrary to that belief there is no hard hitting evidence that is set in stone. They believe it has no link, they say just because autism is found early and and vaccines happen early, does not mean there is proof.

There has been many scientists that have tested the hypothesis that vaccines are related to autism. However, there has not yet been a study to prove the hypotheses right. Parents still have worries and the NVAC are giving people recommendations if they want to not get their kids vaccines.

There has still been worries and many magazines and news articles have reported on it. They do however see how it could be considered an epidemic seeing how that autism is nothing to joke about.

In all, the researchers analyzed the health records of 95,727 children, including more than 15,000 children unvaccinated at age 2 and more than 8,000 still unvaccinated at age 5. Nearly 2,000 of these children were considered at risk for autism because they were born into families that already had a child with the disorder.
