Their extremely efficient farming techniques, as well as the flat, open geography of large portions of their borders, all contributed to this success. Due to the surplus of food and crop, there was room for the population to grow, and thus China and India became large factors in the incredible increase in the world's population during this time. In these countries, crop was currency, and so the environmental awareness of the people of China and India was very high. At this time, these were agricultural societies who relied on the land for food, so deforestation and planting of crops to feed colonizing nations, which dried out the land not only directly where vegetation was removed, but in surrounding areas as well and took farmable land away from native peoples, led to famine in Latin America.

So therefore we are growing economically without regard for the environment because we think it’s not affecting the environment that much because it wasn't in previous centuries but the reality is it’s different now and we need to consider the environment and the economy together, not separately.
