This TedTalk by Tracy Pickett goes over the history of emoji's and how they hold the keys to communication. She brings up how written communication has always fallen short of expressing specific tones that we rely on when we speak out loud. Texting has taken the forefront when it comes to technology, and emojis are just the response from technology that allow for more intimacy in our communication (Pickett, 2017).

Emoji's have become more predominant in communication because human being respond to emotions. It is clear that in order to really be successful in this century, we have to speak and understand the language of emoticons.

Emoji's do not always have one meaning. This infographic shows results from an analysis of tweets containing the emoji of a peach. The results show that only 4% of the time the emoji was used, it actually meant peach. In order to properly use emoji's, it is clear that comprehension of what the emoji's are is needed.

Emoji's have branched into advertisements as well as social media communication. Take this ad from a tweet by the NYC Health and Hospitals. They use the eggplant emoji to target a specific audience, just to remind that audience of health concerns. Ad's are adjusting to the communication of emoji's by using them to gather attention.

Hank Green looks at a study done by neuropsychologists, and encourages more researchers to engage with this new form of communication. Green summarizes a few studies that focus on how people and animals use communication and emotions at the same time. He argues that by looking into the neuro path that our minds take while using emojis it will open up more doors in science to understand how and why people communicate the way that they do.
