The theme developed in "The Story of Keesh" is to not underestimate someone. According to paragraph 18, it states, "Let him go; it will teach him a lesson, the hunters said. And he will come back shortly, and he will be meek and soft of speech in the days to follow." This shows that the council believed that Keesh would come back unsuccessful and he will be embarrassed to speak to them the way he did again. Another example is in paragraph 20 when it states, " Early the next morning, however, Keesh strode into the village. But he came not shamefacedly. Across his shoulders he bore a burden of fresh-killed meat. And there was importance in his step and arrogance in his speech." This explains that Keesh proved the council wrong and came back from hunting successfully. The council thought that because of his young age he could not accomplish what they could as hunters. They assumed that Keesh was foolish because of the way he spoke to the council and pointed out their flaws. This shows that the theme in "The Story of Keesh" is to not underestimate someone.

The theme developed in "The Story of Keesh" is that hard work always pays off. In the text "The Story of Keesh" it states, "Right up to the bear Keesh walked. And the bear took after him, and Keesh ran away. But as he ran he dropped a little round ball on the ice. And the bear stopped and smelled of it, then swallowed it up. And Keesh continued to run away and drop little round balls, and the bear continued to swallow them up.” This evidence shows the theme of hard work because Keesh is hardworking, he didn't get scared, he continued dropping the balls to kill the bear. In addition, in the text, it states, “And Keesh followed after the bear, and for that day and three days more he followed. By this time he was quite sick, the bear, and could crawl no farther, so Keesh came up close and spared him to death.” This evidence also shows the theme of hard work because he was following the bear all three days to finish him up. Therefore, the theme developed in "The Story of Keesh" is that hard work always pays off.

Keesh stood before the council when the men did not give him enough meat. The council told Keesh that the little boy could not hunt alone and should not speak to men with gray beards in that tone. So Keesh had to start hunting himself fighting many dangerous animals and putting his life on the line just for better food. But no matter how much he underestimated Keesh. And that he's more hard working he states that " I have no time.

The theme developed in "The story of Keesh" is to value sacrifices that are made. According to paragraph 2 it states "But the people are prone to forget, and they forgot the deed of his father; and he being but a boy, and his mother only a woman, they too, were swiftly forgotten". This evidence shows that despite the huge sacrifice Keesh's father made to protect his people, it wasn't appreciated enough and the sacrifice was soon forgotten. In addition, in paragraph 7 states "For that I know my father, Bok, was a great hunter, I speak these words It is said that Bok brought home more meat than any of the two best hunters". This evidence also shows how Keesh is trying to make the people aware of the sacrifices his father made for them and they should appreciate every bit of it.

The theme in "Story of Keesh" is skill is not controlled by age. For example as Keesh stated in the story, "There is much meat on the ice a she bear and two half-grown cubs" Keesh, who is only the age of 13, had the ability to kill a polar bear, many hunters in the village may not even have that skill. Another example is when Keesh states, "Keesh had quartered the beasts entrails in true hunter fashion, and removed the entrails." Keesh had to harvest the bear, which is a skill professional hunters have, and Keesh preformed this skill at 13. In conclusion the theme developed in the "story of Keesh" is that skill is not controlled by age.

The theme developed in "The Story of Keesh" is in order to be successful in life you can't have no fear. London says in paragraph 4 "It was at a council, Keesh showed the blood that ran in his veins and the man hood that stiffened his back. With the dignity of an elder." This evidence proves that Keesh wasn't afraid of speaking to the council as a 13 year old boy. Another example that shows the theme is "But it is oft times old and tough ,this meat ,and ,more ever ,it has a unusual quantity of bones ,never did boys of his tender age go forth to hunt alone." This shows that Keesh went to go hunt by himself because he wasn't getting good meat, so he had to go get it himself. This shows that the theme in "The Story of Keesh" is in order to be successful in life you can't have no fear.
