Enraged and frightened, France called onto its surrounding countries for help which led to Germany doing the same. Austria-Hungary joined Germany while Russia joined France due to their similar objective of spreading their influence over the Balkans. Italy had a rivalry with France for to conquer land in North Africa so joined the Alliance to be respected by other countries as well while Britain joined France after Germany's imperial influence during the 19th century.

Austria-Hungary joined the Triple Alliance because Otto von Bismarck of Germany, saw the alliance as a way to keep the peace between the three countries.
