The North was in favor of this amendment because it would add another slave free state to the US.

The north congress men who voted to pass Missouri as a slave sate were seen as traitors.

Congress was told that they had no power to interfere with slavery. So in 1836 they (congress) tabled anti slavery acts. John Adams suggested the gag rule which prevented the consideration of an anti slavery proposal.

 The South continued to attack slavery in books,newspapers and public meetings.

After more than 30 hours of heavy shelling defenders of the fort hauled down the America flag and placed a white flag of surrender.
This sent a wave of furry in the Norths side.
