It would be good for the teacher to use simple and closed questioning techniques at the start. Open questioning can be come in much later when the pupils are more confident and competent. There are several reminders as well as reinforcements from time to time. As the bridging foundation, it is important to stress the importance and purpose / objective of each notation for the different Maths topics. 

E.g. 
1) Class discussion
2) Write down
3) Reinforce 
4) Informal assessment through verbal or physical activities
