In the story, one part that shows that Turtle is smart and clever is when she serves lunch to Nana Philly. Nana Philly keeps knocking the lunch off the table. So, Turtle makes herself lunch and eats it in front of Nana Philly until Nana Philly feels a little regretful for what she did. But then, the following day, she completely changed her attitude and they started bonding. This makes me think that Nana Philly actually does like Turtle, she is probably just the type of person who does not trust someone right away. 

Another part that surprised me was when Aunt Minnie took Turtle's dolls from her. Aunt Minnie demanded that Turtle give her the dolls, saying they belonged to her as a child and that Turtle's mom had stolen them. This is surprising because Aunt Minnie was acting like a child, like how she would have acted as a child fighting with her sister.
