Japanese lost two-thirds of the 31,400 army troops they had. <br>- The U.S. Marines and Army lost less than 2,000 soldiers of the 60,000 deployed. <br>- The most significant loss for the Japanese was the destruction of their elite group of naval aviators. - Japan after Guadalcanal no longer had hopes of withstanding the counteroffensive the  United States. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- The Japanese forces on the island were at a peak strength of 36,000 troops by October<br>&nbsp;- 6 separate naval battles were also fought in the area as the navies of both sides wanted to land reinforcements.&nbsp;<br>- By November the U.S. Navy was able to land reinforcements on Guadalcanal faster than the Japanese, and by January, 44,000 U.S. troops were on the island.&nbsp;<br>- Then by February 1943, the Japanese were forced to evacuate 12,000 of their remaining troops from Guadalcanal as they were badly outnumbered.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
