She even managed to record more than 125 audiobooks and translated stories in braille!

Although most of us are blessed with good vision, we often take our sight (and our other senses, for that matter) for granted. In our school, we strongly believe in the Attitude of Gratitude and all of us are often encouraged to reflect and be grateful about what we have and who we have around us. In that spirit, we would like to invite you to write a post about:

- What you learnt from reading about Sarita's story
- What gratitude means to you
- What and who you are grateful for in your life right now

I learnt from Sarita's story that she was never treated differently by her family despite her condition and she was allowed to hang out with friends and live a normal life even though she was blind. She is willing to help other visually impaired students like her to be able to read books in braille.
Gratitude to me is showing appreciation and returning kindness. Gratitude also implies a feeling of joy.
I am grateful for loving friends and family. My friends and family come first in my life and I always put them first before me even if it means that I have to sacrifice something I really like. They always help and comfort me when I am in trouble or am upset. They always encourage me and one thing I learnt from one of my friends is that life is unfair and society is not always going to agree with your opinions and that you cannot have everything going your way.

First of all I would like to say that this is a very inspiring story as it shows us how we should believe in ourselves no matter what is happening in our lives. Sarita shows her resilience despite being visually impaired and also tries to help people like her by making audio books. Though she did not have these privileges when she was younger. She does not want the future generation to suffer the same way she had. She does not think of herself first but of others. Even though she was sent far to study unlike now where everybody can study together she does not crib or complain. I have learnt that no matter what happens don't give up. Believe in yourself and it will happen. Gratitude shows how appreciative of someone you are after they do something good for you. I am grateful that my parents are always there for me. They are always there for me no matter what I do. If I do the wrong thing they teach me what the right thing is. They always help me in what I do.
To end, I would like to thank What's Up for sharing these wonderful posts. I have leant plenty from it.

This is a very inspiring story. After reading this I realised that we should never take anything for granted. Sarita, even though she is blind, she made the best out of what she had. She may not have as many privileges as us but she persevered through the hardships she faced. She knew that she didn't want the younger generation to suffer as much as she did. Thus, She recorded more than 125 audiobooks and translated stories in braille.
Gratitude is being appreciating everyone for whatever we have. People deserve to be thanked for all the ways they help us no matter how small it might be. Gratitude teaches us the value of their actions by showing them how grateful we are. Gratitude makes this world a much brighter and happier place. We must never forget the value of gratitude.
Every day I thank God for giving me so many good friends. I am thankful for meeting such good Friends. They are kind, trustworthy, and honest. It is very rare to find such genuine friends these days and I feel lucky to have them all. Not only my friends, but also my family. Family is always number one to me. Without them I would not even be here today. I love them so much. Lastly, my teachers .In Primary 1, I could not even read or write without help from my English teachers nor was I able to count how much money I had without any help from my Math teachers. Hence, I am grateful to all those who have made an impact in my life.

I have learnt that we have so much more than what we could have been having but we always see the negative side. Is the glass half empty or half full? Half empty right? Well, I don't think that was the case for Sarita Aryal. Even though she was visually impaired, she turned adversity into opportunity and is doing something great with her life. Gratitude to me is simply being thankful than someone or something is in your life and is there for you whenever you feel down. Gratitude is something that all of us can show in our daily lives by thanking cleaners, thanking our friends and teachers but most importantly, our parents. I am grateful for so many things and people in my life. I am grateful for my family , my close friends and my health . I think that even people with disabilities can also make this world a better place. As Dhar Mann said, " The only disability is the inability to see someone as more!

She was determined to change the lives of these children by giving them the chance to 'read'. That is indeed a person with a heart of gold . Sarita did not want these children to face the same difficulties that she faced during her childhood.

We have to be thankful with what god has given us.

When I was reading the January edition of the what’s up newspaper, a certain article captured my attention. This article was titled, “Sharing the gift of reading through audiobooks and braille.” It was about a woman named Sarita Aryal. Sarita was born blind. But that did not stop her from achieving her goals. She was brought up in Surkhet, a district in mid-western Nepal. As a child, she faced many obstacles, such as the death of her elder sister, who was also born blind. Once, she was humiliated and hit on her head with a stick by her teacher because she was not happy with Sarita’s written work. Sarita recalls that she could answer all the questions verbally, but was punished for not having legible writing. This incident terrified Sarita, who stopped going to school because of it. Then, an encounter with a foreign visitor changed her life. The man talked about a school for the blind in Kathmandu and suggested that Devikumari, Sarita’s mother, enroled her daughter there. Devikumari enrolled Sarita at the Technical and Skill Development Centre for Blind and Disabled in Kirtipur. Sarita did not have a lot, but she was grateful for what she did have. She was grateful for her friends who helped her get over the tough experience of being away from her family in college. She was grateful for her family, who supported her in whatever she did. To me, it is important to be grateful for whatever we have. When we look at a glass half filled with water, we should think it is half full, not half empty. I am extremely grateful for my friends, my family, and every little thing in my life. Sarita did not have proper resources to learn when she was a child, but wants it to be different for other children. So far, she has recorded more than 125 audiobooks and transcribed many books from English to braille. Sarita showed great perseverance. Despite being blind, she never gave up at anything she wanted to achieve. From Sarita, we can learn to be grateful for everything we have, and to let absolutely nothing stop us from achieving our goals.

I learnt that no matter what, even if you are a person in need or isn't normal, you can still pursue your goal to help people like yourself and you still have a future. I also learnt to never give up, no matter or whatever situation you are in, nothing can stop you from helping others and not just sit down and cry over spilt milk but to think' what can I do to help myself' and persevere. Gratitude means to be grateful for something or all that you have and not to whine over what you do not have. The word gratitude also comes from the word grateful. Gratitude also means to thank someone for their services or something. I am grateful for a roof to sleep under, a bed, food, school, my clothes, my electronics and devices, my pet dog and so much more that I can't even remember. But who I'm really grateful for is my parents. They are the ones who provide everything I have, they pay for my school fees, and everything else I have. They're basically like the power switch to everything I have, if not for them, I wouldn't have everything I have.

After reading the following story, Sarita Aryal, made me realise that just because of there is something in the way of our success, does not mean that we should give up just because we have or do not have a disability in life. There will always be challenges in life. but we will always learn how to overcome them. At times we can feel pressure, but if we learn to acknowledge it, we can learn to never give up and learn to strive for our goals. Like Sarita, she was blind but she still hadn't given up her faith and hope to learn her ways as a disabled person, even if she was being brought down, she always found a path to find a way back up. Whenever she had trouble, her mother was always there for her because she told her mother her difficulties and her problems and her mother was always a listening ear. Our loved ones will always understand if you tell them your problems calmly. We should be grateful we were born as a non-disabled person in the real world, as a person who is not disabled, i do not know what it feels like but i know the struggle they have to go through, it's REAL pain of having to struggle to strive in success, of having to work twice as hard as others and still always being brought down because of how you look like or how you're built like. Sarita had to work twice as hard as we do but she was always brought down by people around her, but she still managed to get back up. Im glad she's now managing in life and doing what she does best, in the real world, you can't please everyone, but the bare minimum you can do is please yourself.

Gratitude to me, means being grateful of what you're given by your loved ones and what you have in life because people out there in reality may not have the same advantages like us. We should be honoured and appreciate that we were born with 2 eyes working or 2 ears working or maybe even both our arms and legs working! Unlike us, people struggle in life with the hard work they have to manage with, take for example: The disabled, homeless people, people who work overnight and do not get any rest, and of course etc. Im grateful I was given an opportunity to be able to do stuff most people aren't able to do.

I am grateful for my friends and family for supporting me through hardships like upcoming exams and whenever I am discouraged or sad. My family is always there for me to make me laugh and smile whereas my friends make me encouraged and determined everyday. They always check up on me whenever Im feeling down, I am grateful for my old class last year for accepting me for who I was. And because of them, I got closer to more people whom I lost contact to! But now that I am in a new class, I'm still learning how to cooperate with the students there and knowing new people. It's really fun since I've recently made new friends and met new people, and at first I thought I would never be excited to go to school anymore but now because of 6C, I'm more eager to go to school just like last year. Im glad they welcomed me even though I doubted them.

So moral of the story, be grateful for what you have and focus on what you are able to achieve instead of achieving what others want YOU to succeed.

SARITA, a visually impaired girl yet an achiever. Her story was an eye-opener for me. I realised how it feels to be blind as I could put myself into Sarita's shoes . Her never giving up spirit taught me perseverance. Instead of feeling low and incapable, she decided to bring a change.Since there were not enough books in braille, she transcribed stories into it for the blind people like her and then recited them for the audiobooks. This benefitted many visually impaired as they could learn more now. This stand of Sarita inspired me to never give up in life and try to turn every stumbling block into a stepping stone.

The importance of valuing whatever we get in life without complaining is what I learnt. Appreciating all the little things and always looking at the positive side just like a glass of water being half full instead of half empty is what life should be all about.

Personally, I value all of them who are always there for me and are shaping up my future; my parents and teachers. They have taught me how to differentiate between right and wrong and always hold me whenever I fall down. We should be resilient and try to solve the issue.

Gratitude means being thankful for things we have, get. In my opinion, we should always be grateful for what we have by displaying AOG, Attitude Of Gratitude. I am grateful for my parents, friends, teachers.
I am grateful for my parents as they are supportive of what I do.
My friends as they are people I can count on, they are the people I talk to when I need help.
My teachers as they help me in things I don't understand in subjects.
All in all, I am thankful for everything and everyone I have and know.

She also made audiobooks for kids. This shows me that everyone in the world can have talents disabilities or not. Everyone is special in their own ways. Even her sister passed away and she still did not give up. Also after she got humiliated by her teacher by hitting her on the head with a stick, she got traumatised. She still worked hard at home by listening to radio programmes, reciting poems and compositions she heard on the radio. After that incident, she stopped going to school.
