Some things I don't enjoy about our break times at school is waiting a long time to receive my lunch order

While it's a serious issue, one could say that 52% of turtles are on a "see food" diet, unfortunately mistaking plastic for a gourmet meal!

This problem is for everyday people who struggle to afford their groceries as supermarkets constantly raise the price of them, which is a massive problem. The issue stems from inflation, which has been rising exponentially worldwide in the last 50 years, more so in the last 2 or 3. Because the value of the everyday dollar has gone down significantly, it gives supermarkets like Woolworths and Coles an excuse to increase their prices to an unfair amount.

• How many people are affected by this problem?

Everybody. This is because the whole world needs to eat food, and every country has local food services. All food services understand their consumers increase the price no matter how big or small they are.  

• What currently exists in this space?

Many businesses fight one another as a way to gain more profit. Although this affects our issue because the prices of smaller companies are decreasing. The thing is, although companies like Woolworths and Coles have been increasing their prices exponentially in the last year, they are still returning massive profits which raises a lot of questions.

• Is your problem really a problem?

Yes, food affordability has always been a huge problem worldwide, more so in the last 20 years. Unaffordability in general is considered one of the largest issues in the modern world and worsening rapidly with the effects of worldwide inflation.

• Do you know anyone who might be experiencing this problem?

Everybody that I know experiences this issue although some do not talk about it. This is mainly due to them being wealthy and not really noticing the increasing price of market food.

We did really well in my opinion in making our video really engaging and fun to watch while also making it informative enough to get our serious message.

What improvements would we make if we had the opportunity to do the task again?

I would structure our final video a bit better to the point where it would flow a bit nicer and be a bit more grippier.

What Elements of Collaboration were successful?

Throughout doing this assignment, me and my partner, Conner, had to collaborate a lot to successfully produce our infomercial video.

What improvements could have been made in terms of Collaboration?

Not much at all really, I think me and Conner collaborated together very effectively.

What Persuasive Techniques did we use? How effective were these? What evidence do I have of this?

We used multiple persuasive techniques, including pathos, ethos and logos to sell our product. This was evident in the facts we used to bring our point across, the emotional elements of our video, and our quotation of well known people.

I found the whole task very useful, as it gave me a chance to practice identifying a problem and figuring out solutions for the problem.

How did you use or develop or grow your 5 C’s? (Collaboration, Communication, Critical and Creative Thinking, Citizenship, Character (Strengths))

I developed each of my 5cs greatly throughout the course of this task, as it allowed me to use empathy to identify problems in someone's lunch. During this task, I believe that I developed communication, character and collaboration especially.

What did you find most difficult during the activity? How will you overcome this in the future?

One thing I found most difficult during this assignment was putting myself in the shoes of my partner. I found this hard, as it made a lot of things difficult to understand about this person's circumstances. To overcome this in the future, I can display more empathy to put myself in the other person's shoes.

Solution: The solution to this issue is to introduce Artificial Intelligence platforms which will divide the treatment and diagnosis times by half. It will allow physicians and chemists to focus on complex issues and illnesses, whilst supporting them to perform better in this environment due to the decreased pressure of conducting small-scale matters such as treating a fractured toe. 

A key piece of feedback that we received during our presentations was that it may be difficult to implement our new technology into already established hospitals and medical clinics. This is something that we can look into further before the end of the term.

There are a few more things that I feel like my group needs to do before the INOV8 marketing pitch in week nine. One of the main things we want to get done before week 9 is a proper mock for our app. The app will use AI to determine the symptoms of the user.

Patient Perspective:

Agonised patients with small-scale injuries/illnesses requiring medical attention need to access fast medical attention to save time and emotional distress because the current medical system withholds extended waiting times.

Medical Professional’s Perspective:

Over-occupied and distressed medical professionals with limited available time need to have a supporting system in the form of a reliable medical artificial intelligence program for the treatment of Class 2 or 3 injuries because the professionals are needed in the diagnosis and remedies of large-scale injuries/illnesses.

Self-service medical attention; informative guide that provides methods for simple injury resolution.

Website; website dedicated to the treatments of common illnesses and issues.

Delivery-based treatment packages; the packages are delivered to patients’ homes after filling out an online form for diagnosis of their illness/injury.

Robotic Vaccinations; robots running vaccinations.

Temporary hospital clinics (set up day-by-day) at different stations within a neighbourhood.

Fast-track educational system for medicine to provide more support so that emergency departments can improve wait times.

Greater incentives for emergency department doctors so that more people follow an Emergency Health pathway.

Daily health check-in apps that request basic patient information to inform of any potential bodily issues.

Use customer data diagnosis to understand ways in which the wait time can feel less long. Perhaps a more laid-back environment in waiting rooms.

Both systems will allow for the user to gain an instantaneous diagnosis, which will allow for them to access treatment options quicker. The product will also serve as an additional tool for medical professionals to use, to confirm if their own diagnoses are correct.

Ultimately, the product will revolutionise medicine and will allow for the general improvement of patient care and medical facilities. It will also reduce strain on medical staff and allow them to focus on other serious cases, which will result in greater care for all patients.

Do you think there are issues in our current medical system? Well we, CureTechAI, do. High wait times and misdiagnosis? Well we, CureTechAI, created a solution to solve this issue. Firstly, an AI-based reliable app that patients at home can use. Through our research, we found that 60% of emergency department visits are for low-pain injuries/illnesses which can be easily treated at home using our software. The second system we are implementing is a hospital-based machine that holds an MRI scanner, x-ray machine, ultrasound and blood pressure systems. Ultimately, our product will reduce the load on hospital EDs as well as improve diagnosis reliability, and allow doctors to focus on serious large-scale cases. Hopefully, our pitch has left you with no doubt that CureTechAI should be implemented within both homes and hospitals.

The product is formed with medical professionals and top-of-the-line app developers who would be able to construct an AI unit that is safe from such errors. However, as we know AI can be unreliable, thus why there is a supervising nurse who would be able to check the AI diagnosis.

Jimmy: Those experiencing minor injuries or sickness will no longer need to wait with the new and innovative program, CureTechAI. This system undertakes two key forms:

Jimmy: An app-based function for patients to use at home for small-scale injuries or sickness. The CureTechAI patient app is driven by artificial intelligence that aims to increase patient understanding and everyday health checks without the need to visit the doctor or hospital and receive a hefty medical bill. 

App demonstration begins

James: Here’s how it works: The patient opens the app on a mobile device or desktop and inputs the symptoms they are feeling. The loading screen is a user-friendly interface that displays the options for the symptoms. The user can then proceed to enter their symptoms in the text box here. This data is then processed by CuraTech’s specialised artificial intelligence, which will diagnose the patient. From this point, CuraTechAI will advise the patient whether it is suitable for them to recover at home or to meet a doctor, and appropriate steps to take.

Jimmy: The second CureTechAI product involves a hospital-based machine set up in the Emergency Department of a Hospital, with a similar function to the app. However, the machine has additional features such as blood pressure monitoring, an X-ray machine, an ultrasound system, and small-scale MRI screening. These systems refine the efficiency of the diagnosis. According to the plan, there would be 1 machine station at the hospital entry for any public users who can use the machine to diagnose themselves (under the supervision of the nurse), and 3 machines in the ERs. Once diagnosed, patients, with their supervising nurse, can determine whether they can provide instant treatment that does not require a doctor’s attention. 

Samarbir: Initially, to develop our solution, we require app-developing professionals. Additionally, we require hospital machinery manufacturers who would be able to form a hospital-based machine. The machine would also be made with the support of medical professionals, who would be able to offer guidance on the programming of disease diagnosis. When the product is active, there is a requirement for one supervising nurse for each station to ensure the accuracy of the diagnosis of the AI system. 

Conner: To start our program, CuraTechAI Hospital Units will be introduced within a trial system in 1 hospital with 4 units to advertise our product. This will cost approximately $120k thousand, with each unit costing $30 thousand dollars to manufacture. Additionally, it would cost around 10 thousand to develop the app, which was discussed previously. Therefore, we require around $130 thousand to start our business, which can be achieved through investment.

Conner: We will sell each CuraTechAI Hospital Unit for $40 thousand each in the first business year, making around $10 thousand profit per purchase. To help combat the rising demands in the medical industry, we will also donate 5% of our profits to the Hospital Research Foundation. In our second business year, the cost of each unit will be increased to $45 thousand as we are confident that it will become an essential part of the medical industry. We estimate approximately 20 units will sell in the first year with a revenue of $200 thousand dollars, and 60 in the following year making around $900 thousand dollars in our first 2 business years. 

James: You may ask, how is our product any different from major companies that have partnered with the health industry? Well, large companies such as Pfizer and Medtronic supply very specific resources that need more flexibility. This means their product can only be of use in certain areas, for example, an x-ray machine from Medtronic will only be able to take X-rays. Our CuraTechAI Hospital Unit has a wide range of uses, as its simple use allows patients to take advantage of its easy accessibility, increases hospital efficiency by assisting doctors in ERs and allowing faster and more accurate diagnosis, varying in fields such as physio and general practice. Additionally, the CuraTechAI Mobile app is not only accessible to all people with mobile devices, but it also utilises top-of-the-line artificial intelligence, something at other mobile medical apps have not used.

Samarbir: Ultimately, the product is intended for use within the healthcare industry and is designed to ease the pressure on hospitals, and medical staff, and improve the quality of care for patients. Hence, these three stakeholders are the key benefiters of our product. We are extremely confident that our product will be a huge pioneering success within the medical industry, and harvest strong economic prospects for the CureTechAI company, in achieving its aim of reducing the load on medical industries. 

One positive experience from the expo was being able to discuss our pitch and ideas to the adults who came to our stall and be able to answer their questions and concerns about our product. To do this, we used skills like communication, collaboration and citizenship.

What changes would you make to your product/service based on the feedback/questions you received during the expo?

Based on the feedback we got from some of the adults, I don't think we would change anything about our actual product, as we believe our idea was very good, but there are a couple things we could have done for our presentation to make the experience better for the adults coming to our stall. One of these things was trying to make our pitch a lot shorter, as one of the first pieces of feedback we received was to shorten our pitch, and I feel we did this well for the rest of the people coming to our stall.

How can you use the skills developed in Action Project in other areas of your life/in the future? How will the knowledge you have developed in Action Project guide future experiences?

I believe that a lot of the skills we learnt in action are especially transferable to real life, a lot of the things we learnt are about running a business which is very transferable into real life. Action project taught us a lot of the important things about what it means to run a business and how it is done, which is something which was very interesting to me in particular.

What challenges did you face in Action Project, and how did you overcome them?

Throughout this semester, I feel that the largest challenge we faced in action project was creating the prototype for our AI app. This was extremely difficult to do, as it involved implementing AI into a mobile app and none of us had much experience doing anything like this. However, after doing a lot of work I managed to overcome this and I ended up successfully creating the prototype for our app.

Collaboration: Working on CureTechAI, I improved my ability to work with others by sharing tasks and supporting my teammates. We learned to combine our strengths to make the project better.

Citizenship: By focusing on reducing hospital overcrowding with CureTechAI, I became more aware of community health issues. I now understand how my actions can help solve bigger problems in society.

Character: Throughout the project, I stayed honest and responsible, even when we faced challenges. I also showed that I could be trusted to do my part in making CureTechAI a success.

Critical Thinking: I improved my problem-solving skills by thinking of different ways CureTechAI could work. I also learned to ask good questions and think critically about the feedback we received to improve our app.
