         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tracy K. Smith grew up in California, and then attended both Harvard and Columbia University where she received a degree in creative writing. She then went on to publish four books of poetry, which received numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize. In 2017, Smith was appointed as the U.S poet laureate, a position in which she worked to promote an appreciation of poetry in the nation.<br><br>Smith's works are recognized for their ability to blend her personal background with the sentiments of the masses regarding current events and politics. Her are generally left open ended, leaving readers to consider countless possibilities. As described by the Chancellor of the American Academy of Poets,  " The surfaces of  Tracy K. Smith poem are beautiful and serene, but underneath, there is always a sense of unknown vastness," which "invites us to imagine."<br><br>Smiths four books are titled "Duende," "The Body's Question," "Life on Mars," and "Wade in the Water." Each of these books contains a collection of poems that focus around a central theme she seeks to address.<br><br>Smith now works the department head of Princeton's creative writing department, and she also teaches classes as a professor. In addition, she hosts a podcast called "The Slowdown," on which she "delivers a different way to see the world" through daily poetry reading and analysis.<br><br></div>]]></description>
