  • Deeply toothed leaves are basal 
  • Bright yellow flowers grow on hollow stalks that may hug the ground or reach as high as 70cm 
  • Flower head is tightly packed mass of many tiny florets 
  • Each petal represents a single flower 
  • A milky latex oozes out if the leaves or stems are broken

  • Form a dense mat of leaves (6-14 inches in diameter) that can crowd out desirable species

  • Removing by hand-pulling or hoeing is futile, unless done repeatedly because of their deep tap root system 
  • Dandelion seeds can be moved by equipment or become windborne and travel several miles which makes prevention of infestations harder 
  • They should be removed by digging out the entire plant to minimize soil disturbance
