This is because the name was made with no intention to the system of slavery that would later develop. If "Plantations" is changed to something like "Settlements" then I wouldn't mind enough to make a fuss about it but I believe that "and Providence" must be kept in some form. An example I would use is that if you were falsely accused of a crime (perhaps understandably) would you just plead guilty? This name does indeed have the word "Plantations", but it never had the meaning that plantations did in the South. These plantations were more like settlements and smaller colonies inside of the state. Two separate groups of people on separate parts of the land that were brought together to make the one state we live in today. The name never in-sighted slavery by any means.
