         <title>Alcohol-related crimes in Kensington and Chelsea</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Nationally, around half of all violent crimes are related to alcohol, with consumers of alcohol being both perpetrators and victims. </li><li>Recorded crime  linked to alcohol in Kensington and Chelsea was the 12th lowest rate in London and the lowest of any inner London borough and has consistently dropped over the last four years; it now stands at 1,836 offences per year. </li><li>Alcohol-related violent crimes (1,172 offences) dropped over time within the borough.</li><li>National Home Office estimates suggest that nearly half of all domestic violence offences occurred under the influence of alcohol. </li></ul>]]></description>

In July 2009 the whole of the borough became a designated controlled drinking zone. </li><li> Long-term chronic drinking can lead to a range of health problems, including increased risk of circulatory disease, liver disease and certain cancers.</li><li> About 11% of dementia is related to alcohol use and is consequently preventable.</li><li>Alcohol can be responsible for ill health and death, particularly as a result of alcoholic liver disease. Roughly 18 men and 7 women die each year in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea directly from causes specific to alcohol. </li><li>In the hospital settings 8 men and 5 women die from alcohol related causes each year. There are 750 male admissions and 450 female admissions a year due to alcohol misuse and related causes. </li></ul>]]></description>
