A.

Direct observation, lab experimentation and computer simulations give credible, measurable and objective scientific explanations, and enable the discovery of generalisable theories.

Human knowledge is shaped by social and cultural contexts, by external factors but also by individuals and understanding of issues and phenomena is diverse.  Both quantitative (stats, trends) and qualitative (respondent-driven interviews) data and methods are used. 

C.

In producing knowledge about the past, the focus is on the authenticity of interpretation of original documents. There cannot be one universal truth; the truth is constructed through interpretation, reasoning and use of documentary evidence.

D.

Of primary interest is seeking meaning in text by looking at patterns but also by looking at context and cultural references. The truth is an individual one, every perspective matters, all voices are legitimate

E.

Abstract entities are the focus of study in this discipline. Certain laws and truths exist independent of our ability to understand them, and they ‘never’ change. The knowledge generated in this discipline - its abstract notions, operations and laws are an integral part of many other sciences.
