Auggie Pullman is a ten-year-old boy with a facial deformity. This caused him to be home schooled and not have any friends. He lives with his two parents, his older sister Olivia, and his dog Daisy. His parents decided that it was time for him to go to a real school, so they enrolled him in Beecher Prep. He goes on a tour with Jack Will and Julian, who is very rude to him. His first few months were a little hard. People stared and he didn't have many friends. Then, Jack Will sits at lunch with him and his life turns around. He faces bullies and becomes more confident enough to stand up to them. It takes effort and the help of his new friends, but he figures it out.

Auggie has a facial deformity which made it difficult for him to have friends. When he goes to a public school for the first time, he is made fun of and bullied by other kids. He feels vulnerable and think he's a freak. All he wants is for people to treat him normal, but because of his deformity it causes an issue for him. He has to overcome it and continue his life as a student and try to make some friends.

Rating of Book

I would give this book a high rating because it gives a realist representation of what middle school can be like. My favorite part of the book is when Jack Will sat next to Auggie at lunch. It was the first time Auggie was happy and had a real friend.

Recommendation

I would recommend this book to a younger audience. Preferably kids who go to a elementary school and are about to go to middle school. It sends a message to them that its okay to be different and that staying true to who you are is very important. Sometimes its hard to be who you really are because your worried about what others may think of you. But, being yourself will make you happier and you will find people who are just like you, and this book shows exactly that.
