So if I were to do set design for this play, I would probably use this same color pallet: Neon, jumpy tones to induce a colorful, bright mood.

What I did: I basically merged some elements that I liked from a few different images and I combined them all to make my own creation. (except the pipes and the gumdrop rocks- those were my own ideas) These are the images I chose... each of them played it's own part to inspire my set design!

Remember, this is the first scene inside the chocolate factory. You want to create awe and wonder... you want the audience to be transported to this "World of Imagination" 

Candy Meadow Backdrop: Several elements of the chocolate room would be included in the background on a painted backdrop, rather than making them physical set pieces. Some of these elements include licorice trees, candy cane trees, a lollypop meadow, and the big overflowing chocolate waterfall. 

"Chocolate River Stage": I would wash the stage in brown lighting so that the stage ~becomes~ the river. I would also add flowy, water-like effects in the lighting so that the river looks like it's moving.

Chocolate Sucking Pipes: I would put pipes on the left of the presidium, so it looks like they're sucking up the chocolate from the river downstage left. They would be wide at the bottom so Augustus can 'get stuck' in them. 

Boat Wagon: The main set piece on stage would be a boat for the actors to "row" across the river and marvel at their settings while the whole chocolate room scene takes place.
