We had so much fun watching how tiny caterpillars change into beautiful butterflies!

The Life Cycle of the Butterfly takes about 2 weeks. It starts from egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly. It was beautiful to see the stages.

We were all excited to see the life cycle and butterfly looks beautiful

We need to feed the caterpillar with leaves and water. Look after it, do not disturb it or shake it so that it can grow well and peacefully to become a butterfly.

There are 4 stages of the life cycle. Egg--> caterpillar --> pupa/chrysalis --> butterfly.

Takes about 2 weeks for pupa to transform to butterfly.

We felt a range of emotions. We were excited, amazed, happy and wondrous to see the wonderful transformation of each stage.

Each stage is handled differently.

Caterpillar stage - We need to feed the caterpillars with leaves. We need to clear the container of the caterpillar's waste. We realise that there is a lot of waste produced by the caterpillars, meaning they eat a lot.

Pupa stage - We try not to shake the pupa especially when it hangs by a "thread".

Butterfly stage - It needs to be released as soon as possible so that it will get its freedom, food and water.

We noticed that the cocoon cracked when the butterfly was emerging from it. We also saw that cocoon slowly turned transparent and the butterfly's wings were crumpled.

We felt nervous cause we were not sure if the butterfly would be successful in its emergence from the cocoon. We felt excited when the butterfly finally emerged from the cocoon.

Butterfly then lays eggs and the life cycle starts all over again.

From a pupa to a butterfly. it takes a shorter time to transform compared to human being. We were fascinated and yet squirmed when we saw the transformation.

Adult butterfly reproduces and the life cycle starts all over again.
