I would put a snack box in my classroom. I have seen some teachers take leftovers from breakfast or lunch to supply when they didn’t have anything.

I would help the student facing homelessness or my whole classroom by just having a bin filled with snacks, hair ties, deodorant, toothbrushes, or any toiletries that if they fill they need, they can go grab it. Also, just mentioning it to the guidance counselor.

I would definitely let the student know that as their teacher I care about them and am there to support them so if they needed to talk to me in private I will let the student know they can and make it feel like a safe place for them.

I would avoid assigning “home projects” or home scavenger hunt activities / asking students to bring in materials for a project that could make the student feel uncomfortable if they can’t participate. I also will keep extra snacks if a student can’t bring a snack during snack time
