Jonas is nervous and scared about the December,I think that the December thing is an important even in the community and that the people will have to take a big decision that will impact their future forever
A pilot made a bad mistake and that person will be released.
Every night the kids have to explain their feelings to their parents.The parents hear the feeling and then they try to reason their kids to transform that negative feeling to a positive feeling.
The society is really strict and they have rules that everyone has to respect. I think that this society is utopia.

The dad talk about how they might release a Nurturers(new child) and Lily was joking about keeping him.

You can only have two children -one male,one girl so again you can determine that this society is very organized and that all the rules are really strict.

Jonas remembered when they received Lily. Why didn't the parents from the parents how do u receive a children.
Now I can determine that each December is their anniversary.
“The year we got Lily, we knew of course that we’d receive our female,because we’d made our application and been approved”. So the parents knew they were going to have a female because the rule is strict about 1 male,1 female. Also they had to apply to get a child, how weird is that?
The naming Ceremonies too and now we know that the names arent decided by the family but by the committee(the names are already designed for each newborn).
Each year there is the Ceremony of Ones and the Ceremony of Twelve
Now we learned that after the age of 12 there is a lot of changes(no longer spending times with your old friends,Volunteers Hours and everything is going to become more serious.

Personal Thoughts

I have a theory about why the special month is December. We all know that Jesus is born on December 25 so I think this as to do with Jesus so I believe this society is catholic.
The rule of one female,one male is like the rule of one kid in China. Both of those have similiar in the fact that rules are really unfair,strict and if you can that rule serious consequences will be involed. The only difference is that in this book it's impossible to escape or not get caught breaking the rules while in real life you can hide your kids and it's impossible for a country to minitor when the baby are borns or the gender that the couple will have. So we can compare the realistic versus the fictional
I can determine that this society is a “privilege” and that you should be fortunate that you’re living in this community. Personally I wouldn't be happy living in that type of communitee because I like being free making my own decisions and not being handcuff while there you always have to respect everything.

Predictions

I can already recognized that this family will break some rules because in Chapter 1 Lily joked about adopting Gabriel,Jonas was teaching his sister to learn how to bike,The Father looked for the young boy’s name(his name is Gabriel) and the Mother is the only one that respect always respect the rules.
I predict that in the next chapters we will this family breaking more, bigger rules and they will get caught which will lead to a big consequence

I predict that this is the first of many times that Jonas can see things that are unusual and I strongly believe that there is something special with having blue eyes but we don’t know yet. For Gabriel I believe that he will get some special attention or something like that because The Father will try to do everything to keep him and I think that they will adopt Gabriel and be the first family to have three children which will lead to terrible consequences.

Bikes

Finally I believe that the society is an utopia so it’s perfect and the bikes are their conveyance because it's really simple, no climate change,no major injuries and it reduces the rist of death.

Personal thoughts from this book so far

I am really surprised about how the book turned out to be because I thought that the book cover(an old man) was going to be an important character in the Giver but we haven’t seen him yet. Also I like that I can really imagine the society that they are leaving him and the environment of the society so the author did a really job of that. For Chapter 5 we can recognized that this society is monitoring each of your moves and everything is already place for you.

My theory

I have a theory that this society are actually robots, at first you might think that this is crazy but after I give some reason why this will make more sense. So we all know the siblings aren’t related to each other and now we know that the adultes don’t even pick their future partner because they have a Matching Spouses. Also have you ever wondered where does the New-Borns come from,where are they after being released.

The fact that they are robots would also explained how they can’t love someone, they always have to talk about their feeling and how the rules are so strict.

The Old Man/Prediction

I believe that the man we saw is The Receiver of Memory is the old men that we saw on the book cover and that I predict will be a key character in the story. I believe that because he also has pale eyes and why would the first time we talk about the man is specifically the time about the Receiver and I believe it’s not coincidental. Also I’m really thrilled to see where will Jonas trained and what physical pain is she talking about. Personally I believe that Jonas will be training somewhere isolated outside and if he does a mistake or doesn’t demonstrate all of the capabilities required to be the next Receiver of Memory, he will be slapped or even tortured.

Theory about what happened ten years ago

I personally think that what happened years ago is that the nominated Receiver wasn’t ready mentally and physically prepared for all that pain. So she decided to leave or escaped without anyone knowing and it had a terrible impact on the community. I also believe that the Giver was extremely impacted by this loss and I think that he took it personal because he believed that he failed.

What we learned in chapter is a very pivotal point of the story,now we discover why they don't have snow,sledding and sunshine. It’s all because of Sameness and Climate Control. But I’m still wondering who decided to incorporate those rules into the community, we know it was a long time ago and there’s good reason why they did but imagine all the fun that it would be for the kids to play in the snow and to experience those climats.

Real life connections with elephants

The memory that Jonas experience talk about three mens who captured elephants. This is a real life connection because in our world, hunters are chasing the tusks of elephants to make profit of it. So now we see that new born elephants are born without these tusks and that could have a huge negative impact in the future. But now he have programs whose goals are to specifically protect the magnificent tusks of the elephants so we are heading in the right direction. The author did another wonderful job to relate the book to a serious problem in our world.

Prediction about Gabriel

I have a prediction that Gabriel will be the next Receiver. I believe so because in the previous chapter, Jonas tried to transfer a memory to Asher but with nothing happened but somehow when Jonas transferred a memory to Gabriel he was actually successful and that definitely means something really important. I also think that Jonas will continue to transfer memories to the little boy so that his parents will stop having the idea to release him and Gabriel will continue to live with this family.

Jonas helps the Giver by taking some of his pain

Jonas was in a war environment where he sees a young boy who’s extremely thirsty,wounded men on the ground,dead horses and the sound of cannons

Jonas is starting to rethink the Assignment of the Receiver because he just wants to live an average life like everyone one else

He also had the chance to experience a birthday party,museums,colorful paintings,snow and sledding.

The Giver’s most memorable memory is Christmas with the grandparents,child's opening their gift and just the glorious and colorful ambience.

When Jonas asked his Father Do you love me, his Father was disappointed because it wasn’t “precise”.

Jonas told his first lie

Every time Gabriel slept in Jonas room,he always seems to sleep peacefully but when he sleeps somewhere else it’s back to the old times where he just can’t stay calm

Connection with war

This book is a clear representation of war and how life isn’t fair. For example in the book, while Jonas is taking all that pain and suffering, everyone else in the Community other than the Giver is living a good life,having fun no need to worry about anything. In our world right now, I am at home working on my Novel Card not even suffering at all I can get water and food whenever I want. Meanwhile in Afghanistan people are fighting for their life, they haven’t ate or drank in a week and for them every day could be their last. So that's another connection from the book to our reality

Wow what an phenomenal and mind changing chapter. Now we finally know what the term releasement mean. It means that you are going to get killed. So every time you do something bad you automatically get sent to die. This also means that this community is really strict and that they don’t accept any mistakes. So this was probably one of the biggest chapters in the whole book.
