She was said to be the kind of woman who would stand up in a room full of white people and declare her humanity.

The historic Brown vs Board of Education case shook the world of education in 1954. It was ruled unconstitutional to segregate schools due to a child's race. This can be looked at as a good and bad thing. It is a good thing because black and white children were now getting an equal level of education. On the other hand it can also be viewed as a racist movement, claiming children of color need to be integrated into a white school to get a "proper" education.

The Cosby Show was a famous American sitcom consisting of an upper class, stable black family. The show was looked at as fun and light hearted but in reality, it had a message behind it. Basically, if a black family wasn't like the Huxtables: rich, family oriented, loving, kind, then they weren't worthy of having anything. The black families who didn't resemble the "perfect American family" portrayed on The Cosby Show furthered the point of black people being "subhuman".

However, I personally strive to be someone who is known to be understanding and accepting of all regardless or race, class, or background. I think as a person of color myself it gives me insight into the fact that we all come from different walks of life, so simply just not being racist isn't enough. I do my best to educate people on things like this and really help them to understand the actuality of what being antiracist is. I don't see it as being a nonobjective third party that simply doesn't participate in racism, but someone who actively uses their voice to speak against it within their community in any way they can.
