The video shows an unethical example of not respecting humanity. The cells were taken for scientific research and experiments without her permission or acknowledgement. Also, the Lacks family was not compensated for the use of their cells. A lot of medical institutions sell the cell for profits, and lead to the questions about the quality of care that Lacks received as a Black woman.

Even though research has benefited incredibly from the HeLa cell line, I do still think it's unethical that her cells were used and are still being used without her or her family's consent. There are other, more ethical ways that the researchers could have gone about this... asking for and receiving consent would have still allowed them to make such discoveries.

I think it's quite shocking that Lacks' family members only found out about the harvesting of her cells DECADES after. To take from someone's body without them knowing is not only invasive, but discredits any of the progress they have given to the world. If scientists and doctors had gathered her consent beforehand, the research would have been more ethically conducted.

Ethics are an important consideration when conducting research. In the case of Henrietta Lacks, I found it a bit unsettling that she was not informed of the replication of her cells. Additionally, the fact that this was also part of a long history of using African-Americans for scientific research without consent is equally troubling. It is interesting if Henrietta would have consented if asked.

It is quite shocking to learn that a cell from one people actually contribute to the Medical Research for decades. But it feels sad to hear that Henrietta died that young and her families never get credit or benefit for her contribution. Should scientists keep using HeLa cells? I think yes, cause that will benefit the human society for probably the next ten decades, but I think her family should have been compensated and researchers should be following ethical rules when conducting these kind of study

Henrietta Lacks' cells were also harvested without her or her family's knowing, which is unethical. Although we cannot go back in time to ensure Henrietta Lack's cells were used unethically, I feel as though the scientific advancements made overrule the unethical concerns specific to this case, as it led to several medical breakthroughs. - Justin Cheong

I think this story speaks of the ethics of research. Lacks’ cells were extracted without her knowledge or consent, which is highly unethical. Researchers must inform patients of their rights before taking part in the study. They should explain the methodology of the research and what they will use that patient’s information for. They must also ensure the safety of the patients participating in the study, and if required, their anonymity and privacy. Some researchers might sample information while leaving the patients anonymous, but that should be with their consent.

Many groundbreaking discoveries in the past, are now viewed through the lens of contemporary ethical standards, raising questions about historical scientific practices and their moral implications. This scrutiny highlights the evolving nature of ethical considerations in scientific inquiry.

It is an incredible opportunity to research such a "immortal" cell, but under the condition of the unconcented person, it is very unethical to do so. I hope they stop doing that now. Now I see the importance of this class, ethical research. This should be a lesson every researcher should learn.
