“As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.”

Analysis: <del>Gregor's life was not meaningful at all since he just lived for work. </del>

<del>He is not living life from himself </del>

Gregor wakes up one morning and is not in any way surprised that he has turned into an insect. He does not panic , he does not freak out like a normal person would. This makes it seem like he was almost expecting this change which means he has been losing his humanity for a while.

<del>“One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that in his bed he had been changed into a monstrous bug…” </del>

Analysis: <del>Gregor's transformation reflects on how he was dealing with his life. For example, he did not have a social life and the days did not have a meaning. Consequently, all his emotions were connected on his dreams, where he mentions about his "anxious dreams". </del>

You have the same quotation here from two different versions of the book. You are not really analyzing what happens in his head here.

The second quote should have been about him focusing on getting up and catching the train so he can go to work. This would prove that he is not focused on his well being but on his work instead which again shows how he probably did not feel human before the transformed

How Gregor seems to be for others.

"Perhaps, however, the romantic enthusiasm of girls her age, which seeks to indulge itself at every opportunity, played a part, by tempting her to make Gregor's situation even more terrifying in order that she might do even more for him."

Analysis: This quotation clearly shows a metaphor of how Gregor sees the world around him or how he seems to be for others. Like the other members of the family, Grete is unwilling to ascribe to Gregor the ability to understand what she says and the ability to communicate in non-verbal ways.

Metaphorically, the quote suggests that Grete's unwillingness stems from her "romantic enthusiasm," her desire to star in her very own fairy-tale, with Gregor as the horrible monster.

Analysis: this quotations represents that, with an exception of Grete's calling out Gregor, nobody calls Gregor by name. The only person who says a word to Gregor is the cleaning woman, not any member of his family, and she calls him a "dung beetle."

It's probably not as insulting if he is a vermin, and even though Gregor is annoyed, he detects the cleaning woman's friendly. So, it can be concluded that the cleaning woman was the only character In the story who does not see Gregor as a vermin and makes gestures to him, making him feel as a normal person.

In "The Metamorphosis", Franz Kafka shows in a depth analysi about the importance of humanity in people's life. When humanity is taken away from a person, they are no longer considered human by others because they lack individuality and human attributes. Humanity gives a person the reason to be accepted into society, and people who lack humanity become outcasts. However, the book shows how Gregor has lost his humanity throughout many factors, such as: his relationship with his family, his self-esteem, his transformation into a bug and how he seems to be for other. All of these factors make him loose his humanity and the purpose of his life.
