The stone forest. Liubov Roshchupkina, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Saint Petersburg has always been one of the most European Russian cities because of its architectural appearance. A lot of architects from Northern Europe worked there especially at the beginning of the 20 century. The same people created the streets of Finnish, Swedish, Estonian cities. The style of these buildings can be characterised as the national Romantic style. One of its features is using the animalistic or floral decoration for the foresides. The images of local animals, birds and plants made of granite can be seen everywhere .
My idea is to explore the architecture of national romantic style in Saint Petersburg searching the images of animals and plants of the Baltic region. Afterwards the groups of students make the research about the creative works of the architects and represent their projects. At the same time students from other countries may complete the same task. Students may represent the results online and compare them.
Through the comparison of the heritage of our countries, based on the motives of nature of Baltic region we can understand the community of our culture.

Dear friends! Join us in the architectural research project “Stone Forest” initiated by Liubov Roshchupkina from school #639, St-Petersburg! Common motifs, ideas and values, the same architects working in different cities – there is a lot to explore and share with each other. The style of presentation can also be diverse.
