In the giver there are two ceremonies called the ceremony of release and the ceremony of the loss. The ceremony of release and ceremony of the loss are simmilar, but different although the names would throw you off. In the ceremony of release one has his or her life read, then walks though a door(pg31-32).While in the ceremony of the loss if someone goes missing they will say his or her name throughout the day slowly decreasing in volume until they are silent(pg43,ph1). That is the difference between the ceremonies.
Although there are similarities. In both there is a loss regardless if it's happy or sad. The loss person gets replaced or recycled(pg43,ph4.

The ceremony of release is a bitter/sweet moment of dismissal of the old. After spending a certain amount of time in their community, the Elder is released. But Ceremony of Loss is just plain bitter. After somebody dies, the entire community performs the Ceremony of Loss together, "...murmuring the name throughout the entire day, less and less frequently, softer in volume..."

Ceremony of Release and Ceremony of Loss could be mistaken as the same the sometimes but it has its differences. During the Ceremony of Loss you walk around the whole day and murmur the name of the persons name (page 43, paragraph 1&2). As you continue to say the persons name, you say it less frequently and your voice gradually gets softer and the name fades away from your memory. During the Ceremony of Release, you are celebrated and give a speech and you about the persons whole life (page 30, paragraph 6) Once you're finished with your speech, the people in the "house of old" chant an anthem, the person being released goes through a special door and are never seen again.

In The Giver there is a ceremony of release and a ceremony of loss. The ceremony of release is preformed for the old and for new children. They get "released" from their community. In The Giver (Page 30, Paragraph 6 and 7) a release of a old man named Roberto. They told his whole life story before they released him. Most of the Old that get released have a have a happy look on their face.
The ceremony of loss is rarely preformed but it was preformed for a new child named Caleb, who crawled into the river and was never seen again. They start to say his name and they gradually get softer until there is no sound at all erasing home from time and memory. After a ceremony of loss no other new child is named Caleb or the name of the lost child. (On Page 42 last paragraph) a new child was named Caleb and was given to the family unit who lost Caleb. They start to quietly say his name and increase in volume like they are bringing him back to life.

There are differences in the ceremony of release and the ceremony of loss. In the ceremony of release you live in the House of the Old. In The Giver page 30-31 the last paragraph says "They told his life before they released him." They also have the person who they are releasing there alive. They tell the people about his life and then they give a toast. The person being released gives a speech and others do too to wish them well. Most of the people being released are happy and exited for it.

The ceremony of loss was rare. In The Giver page 42 last paragraph it says, "The community was extraordinarily safe, each citizen watchful and protective of all children." During the ceremony of loss, the whole community murmur the child's name during the day. Each time it's softer. Then at the end of the day, the child seemes to fade away from everyone's mind. "Release was not the same as loss." The Giver page 43 paragraph 3.

The difference between a ceremony of Release and the Ceremony of the loss is that when they celebrated the release ceremony, they celebrate people going somewhere else. On page 30 the last paragraph in the Giver, it says "This morning we celebrated the release of Roberto." I think that this means that Roberto went to another community because that said that you could apply for a release. The ceremony of the loss is where you celebrate the life of someone. So it's kind of like a funeral. On page 43 the first paragraph in the Giver, it says "The entire community had performed the Ceremony of Loss together, murmuring the name Caleb throughout an entire day. It's exactly like a funeral but they just say the person's name all day long.

The ceremony of release is a much happier event than the ceremony of loss. There is a big smile on each person's face and even on the person who is the main reason of the occasion . There is a big speech about the person's life before the person walks of a special door mostly with a smile on his/her face. The ceremony of loss is the complete opposite of the ceremony of release. It is done because of the loss of a citizen who was not lost to release but to death. The ritual performed is much more sad and "robotic". The individual who is lost has his/her name repeated for 24 hours. It starts off at a loud chant but at the ending of the day , there is a quiet, somber and low chant repetitively saying the lost individual's name.
It is safe to say that in the end, the ceremony of loss and release are two very different occasions. For in the giver, "Release is not the same as loss" [Jonas 43 Pgh 3, the giver]

The Ceremony of Release is more of a happy ceremony and your remembering the good times of the person that's being release. Sounds like a graduation kinda..

And the Ceremony of Loss is like a funeral but 10x more creepier. Like in the story, on page 43, in the first paragraph, it states that "The whole community performed the ceremony of loss together, murmuring the name Caleb throughout the entire day.." After the Ceremony of Loss, maybe a few Decembers later, they'll be a Ceremony of Replacement from the lost.

So in conclusion, the ceremonies are similar in never seeing the person again, but also very different in how they treat the two ceremonies. One is happy, and the other... Not so happy but rather depressing.

The difference between the ceremony of release and the ceremony off loss is that during the ceremony of release you are alive and you have a speech in it. It is kind of like a graduation. (Pg. 32 paragraph 1). A ceremony of loss is different. That is when some one has died and everyone gathers and chants the persons name loud then softer then softer to where you can no longer hear it (pg. 43 paragraph 1).

The ceremony of loss is when a citizen either dies, lost, or not normal. A ceremony of realease is when a person is too old, or they signed a document saying they want to leave. Roberto, in the Giver, was happy he was getting realesed. On page 32, paragraph 2, it says, "He was thrilled. You should have seen the look on his face when they let him go." I think the ceremony of realease is a good thing, based on how Roberto reacted when he got realesed. The ceremony of loss is a sad thing, because they couldn't make it to this community happily, and

In the book "The Giver" there are two different ceremony's. There is the Ceremony of Release and the Ceremoy of Loss. The Ceremony of Loss is talked about on page 43 of "The Giver". The Ceremony of Loss is basically a funeral, but they just have a weird name for it. The Ceremony of Release is talked about on pages 31 and 32, that is a story about a Birthmother's release and her name was Edna. The Ceremony of Release is when someone is being released somewhere, but no one knows where they are being released to.

There's a difference between the ceremony or release and the ceremony of loss. For example on page 30 an elderly named Roberto celebrates his release. He told people how he felt about them and gave a speech. During the ceremony of loss your supposed to say the person who has deceased name over and over again until the end of the day and never bring them up and your not allowed to name a child the name of a person who has died. For example on page 42 paragraph 6 it says how Caleb was being replaced by another Caleb because the fist Caleb died so they renamed another baby replacing the fist Caleb.

The ceremony of release is more of a celebrations than a release. In the book it said when Larrisa was talking about the recent ceremony's on page 31 she said" He was Thrilled. You should have seen the look on his face when they let him go." This shows that people are usually happy at a ceremony of release. The ceremony of loss is alot different than a ceremony of release. On page 43 it said " The entire community had preformed th Ceremony of Loss together, murmuring the name Caleb throughout the entire day less and less frequently, softer in volume, as the long and somber day went on, so that the little four seemed to fade away gradually from everyone's consciousness." This shows that the ceremony of loss mostly is sad while the ceremony of release is mostly happy

The Ceremony of Release is to be happy for this person to live such a wonderful life and celebrate what they did with the life they lived. On pages 30-32, when Jonas was with the Old lady, they started talking about Roberto. He was an Old man that just had his Ceremony of Release an they where talking about his life and he said his last words and he just when off. No kids where aloud and no one knows where he went. The Ceremony of Loss is something very different. It is the loss of a life. The Ceremony of Release was to celebrate life. This was when someone has passed. When they just pass, the community will make a Ceremony of Loss and chant the name of the person who had unexpectedly died. This happened with a kid named Caleb on page 42-43. When a kid dies, the parent are given a new child with the same name. When the parents are given this new child, the community will preform the Murmur-of-Replacement Ceremony. This is when you chant the name of the person that has passed, for the first time since that passed, to say that there is a new child that has replaced the pass child.

The ceremony of loss is a ceremony that is preformed for when a community member dies, like when the kid got lost in the river. They then preformed a ceremony for him.

The Ceremony of Release is a bitter sweet moment. After a certain period of time, Elders are released from their communities. But the Ceremony of Loss is just plain bitter. After a member of a community dies, the whole community performs the Ceremony of Loss together, "...my murmuring the name throughout the entire day, less and less frequently, softer in volume..." ( Lowry, The Giver, pg. 65).
