As we all know, we live in a very conservative country where it is difficult for us to be open to new things. That’s why I propose three steps that could help us to leave our boxes:

Looking for changes implies to change ourselves. That's why I believe that the first step is working on our biases. We need to recognize that there are differences that shouldn't be a reason to not live together in society, but instead to help us to learn from the differences and find them as an enriching experience that will open doors to empathize with others.

Second step is changing the organization's view. The organizations can take the advantages of diversity and start applying this in their companies. There are organizations that refuse to change their structure and their politics. This is reflected in job opportunities for the women, it’s not commun for big companies to be led by women. We know that thanks to the studies opportunities, women are in the capacity to lead the organizations.

Finally, the third step is the institucional. Our country should break down the gates giving the same work opportunities in our country. A big example of this is people with disabilities, most private organizations decide not to hire them and pay the penalty fee. This is the reason why our Government should control this situation in order to give more incentives to companies, thus finding the hiring of people with disabilities attractive and necessary.

With a popullation of 32.51 millions of habitants, Peru is a multiethnic country and our culture is considered to be a mix of Indigenous traditions, European colonial elements as well as African and Asian influences.
Despite Peru’s multicultural society, issues of inequity and discrimination exist and that is why is so important to create awareness on people and fall in love once again of our beautiful country by leaving differences behind.

But I'm sure you are wondering... how can we do that?
Here are some thoughts that might become handy:
1. Individual level: We don’t want to admit it, but we all have unconscious biases. However, taking a bias test will show our unconscious biases. After that, taking a trip inside Peru will be the best choice to help us understand how our own people think and put ourselves in their shoes. Plus traveling is the best therapy for the spirit!

2. Team Level: Sometimes it's hard to make a team work because we don't know what approach to take.
Online learning can help prepared us to get to know our pros and cons from our virtual offices. After location, time is the greatest limitation on learning so by removing that requirement, everyone can participate at a time and for a duration that suits their schedule.

3. Organizational: There are a few diversity committees in our organizations so a good idea is to start by making them with the participation of managers/leaders and regular workers.
In this team everybody should be treated with respect, empathy, will be heard and will have an active voice to represent their parties.

4. Institutional: Unfortunately our society is still close minded to many topics so I think is time that our country encourage members of our community to be open-minded, critical thinkers and more patients to understand the differences of Perú.
This can be done by the use of social media like Instagram where diversity campaings can be made and on those where internet is not accessible, use the power of the radio to create and space for awareness.

KATHERINE ESCOBAR - MY PROPOSAL :)

Society has many challenges to open up to new things. That is why I propose some steps that could help us get out of our boxes:
a) Know our thoughts and analyze if we have biases to get out of the box. That is why I believe that the first step is to work with our prejudices and stereotypes that we have. We must bear in mind that differences do not help to improve diversity in organizations, so being empathetic and respectful of others will help improve coexistence

B) The second step is to get companies to analyze their visions and apply diversity in them. This implies modifying their structure and their equal opportunities policies and regarding the cultural diversity of each worker.

C) Thirdly, the institutional aspect must be analyzed, applying diversity policies at the national level from the schools will help the majority of people not grow up with biased or discriminatory ideas, therefore, it will improve the environment of awareness of diversity that each person has and that is valued and respected.

Fiorella Lavado - My proposal
We all have different opinions, perspectives, ways to see our lives and manage actions. It means, every country has different cultures, languages, kind of people, religion, etc so we have diversity everywhere. Peru is considered a multicultural country in which some traditional thinkings continue being present these days. In that sense, it has some issues of discrimination for instance. It generates conflict between people with different racial, thinking and ethnic aspects. That is the main reason why people need to be awareness of the situation that represents oe of the big issues we have in our country. For that, I propose two principal factors that could help getting out of our boxes.
1. First, change our minds. We need to start practicing empathy as a virtue each days of our lives. That involves to change our biases or prejudice factors that comes to our minds when we see people on streets. It's time to start working together as a group to support and help each other in order to increase our self steem with people and ourselves. This is possible if we learn to live without problems with the society and giving help to those who really needs. That's part of being in someone's shoes.
2. Finally, companies should practice some important and strong values with the employees in order to create a healthy environment between co-workers and it helps them to understand everybody's situation. This is going to motivate if they feel comfortable working in a great environment free of discrimination, differences and bad treatments. It's going to be strong the objectives of the organization and strengthen the weather. If workers practice important values every day in the work, they're going to practice ourside the work so it's going to become in a routine.
