The Pope will visit Bogotá this Wednesday. As a result, there will be serious transportation issues on Thursday due to the closing of some main roads. Nevertheless, there will not be as many transportation problems on Wednesday and Friday. Therefore, I consider pertinent to cancel classes only on Thursday.

First of all, on Thursday most of the bus routes will not be available and many of the main roads will be closed for cars, so it will be almost impossible to get to the university for people who don’t live nearby. Moreover, a research has shown that more than 60% of the university population will not be able to arrive to the university this day. Thus, students will not be able to present exams or hand in homeworks and many of the staff will not be there to fulfill their function.

On the other hand, while some argue that classes should be cancelled on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; there will be several alternative routes on Wednesday for the students and the staff to get to the university and return home. Moreover, on Friday public transportation will work normally and for this reason classes should be cancelled only on Thursday.

Besides, despite the fact that many academic activities would be delayed, many of them can be done through the Internet. For example, teachers can upload virtual lessons and homework for their students through Sicua. So, all in all students wouldn’t miss as many lessons or homeworks as it would be thought.

Therefore, it is better to cancel class on Thursday only in order to avoid the students’ unfulfillment of their duties and the lack of staff in the university. This is the best option since students will be able to hand in homeworks and will have classes regularly through the Internet, although they will not be able to present exams or do practical activities.

Activities at the university are going to be cancel during the visit of the Pope to Bogota. This is a controversial situation because there are two poles; the ones that are agree and the ones that are against of it. I`m in favor of cancelling classes during the pope`s visit and leave homework’s, considering that during those days there will be serious transportation issues.

First of all, a very important part of the transportation in Bogota will not be available, because so many roads will be closed and the “pico y placa” is going to change. So, the students that doesn’t live near the university will have a lot of problems to come. It would be unfair that only the few students that live near can have the opportunity to come and learn; also, this will create a disequilibrium between the students.

The ones that are disagree says that the teachers can do the classes online and upload to Sicua some of the activities that supposed to be done during the class, but it’s obvious that many of them can’t be done at home. Also, says that the university should create some kind of plan to let their students to arrive to the university, but that is impossible considering that the order to close some streets comes from the government of our city.

In conclusion, the best option for me is to cancel all that activities. The subjects that can leave homework should do it and the ones that can’t should wait until next class to continue with the topics.

The visit of the pope to Colombia required a lot of things becausa the goberment has to spend a lot of money to be posible the travel of the pope. Some of the thing that implicaded this visit was that the university decided to cancel clases three days Wednesday thursdasy y Friday because many streets where closed. In my opinión, i think this was very exagerated because for example, the streets where close from the 2 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, on the other hand Thursday all the streets where closed so it has justified that we didn’t have class, but on Friday it was very exagerated that we didn’t come.

Assistance to class on Thursday

Every day is surrounded by unexpected facts that can affect classes. This Thursday the 8° of September, a relevant visit will occur. One of the most representative public figures is arriving to Colombia: the pope. Despite it is very important to separate the visiting from the academic issues, many people will not be able to assist to their classes. As a barely known, transportation around University of Los Andes will not work. Due to the above, this day needs to be a free day for all students.

It must not be fair, for anybody, getting a class when having more opportunities to go to the college. When the people live nearby the university, they almost never have trouble with attendance. On the other side, people who live at more than twenty minutes by walking usually faces big deals such as traffic or crowds. This poor mobility is the cause of many delays on classes. Considering these reasons, most of the students at the university will have lots of troubles while they will try to get to the college. But, if they do not have classes, anyone will miss a test or an important activity settled for this Thursday

It is mainly considerable that going to the university is necessary for each student because of the process in learning. This is true and is a fact that the more the people assist to their classes, the more they learn. But parallel with this statement, students sometimes do not understand what teachers explain. These people use to work a lot by themselves and most of the time also get the highest grades. As shown, there are other forms of improving the knowledge compensating the missed class.

The explanation of above is for introducing a solution for the thought of mandatory assistance. While the reasons of this thinking are based on the themes that students would miss, the web is an answer. Sicua is a web page where students can link the academic tasks with their comfort at home. Therefore, it is very important to use it as a tool where teachers are able to ask the students to do researches or so.

To summarize, students should not go to the university and have classes, but they should not miss themes. Teachers must leave some homework in order to follow the required for the university. In other case, the grades gotten this day would be unfair for those who will face traffic problems. All this will be stablished in terms of the fair trade between students, teachers, and university stuff.

Is it necessary to lose class because of the visit of the pope? This is the question many students might be asking themselves this days. Wether it is for transportation issues or other complications, it has a limit, three days straight cannot be lost.

it is true that public Transport is a major complication for the days in mention, but the students have alternative ways, too. Wednesday is going to have a minor interruption. Closing only a section of a main road, there are plenty of options for a safe arrival. Thursday comes with a fair excuse for class loss, for there will be no access to the city downtown. Finally in Friday there will be no road closures. Closing, the only valid excuse for class cancellation, in terms of transport, is in Thursday.

Secondly, Class loss is a huge problem for the students. Mainly, they loose important lessons, which include the opportunity to ask questions and update group works. But most importantly, class loss is problematic due to the laboratories and practical works that cannot be done nor experienced remotely. Cancelling classes results in lack of practice and experiences.

Religious issues can be part of the discussion too. The Pope is offering a massive preaching in Bogotá, but happens on Thursday only. Then again, the excuse is only valid one day.

In Conclusion class shouldn't be cancelled more than one day. It is an important loss if classes are missing without a valid excuse. Opportunities to practice and learn cannot be missed.

Activities at the university during the visit of the Pope to Bogotá.

Colombia is a country that has been characterized since its foundation as a country where the predominant religion of its population has been the Christian catholic religion. This characteristic originates with the arrival of the Spaniards to America where their religion insignia was precisely this, the Christian catholic religion. During the development of the history of this country, the great majority of important decisions have been linked and strongly influenced by the opinions and mandates of the representatives of the Christian Catholic religion (parishioners, priests and bishops); for example in presidential and government elections, in the orientation of education, in the management of the country's territories, investment, etc. For the above I wish to ask the university's directors to seriously consider canceling all academic activity during the three days that the pope will be in the city of Bogota. To evaluate this measure, I offer two arguments as to why classes should be canceled these three days.

First, Bogotá is a city for which its daily activity is directly linked to transportation, whether public or private. The great majority of its inhabitants inhabit the outside of the center of the city, but paradoxically its works and universities are in the center. For the visit its sanctity to the city will be disabled two of the main corridors of the city, Avenue 26 and Avenue 19; interfering directly with the transportation of 50000 personnel, of which 15,000 are university students and 2000 belong to the University of Los Andes. This implies that these students will not be able to attend their classes and will generate a number of requests for the replacement of their classes, thus spending more time and money, which would be spent canceling classes these three days. In the second instance, Bogota is the capital city of Colombia, for this reason it is the city with the largest number of inhabitants belonging to the Catholic religion. According to the latest NDC survey, 70% of the city's inhabitants are Catholic, while 20% of them are university students, who wish to attend ceremonies that the pope would promote in the city and should be absent from class. Given the above, the university must replace these students, since it is their right to live their religion, which means spending time and money.

For all of the above, it should be clear that the arguments against canceling class are not valid. On the contrary, canceling classes will be the best measure for both the institution and its students, since those who wish to be able to freely exercise their faith and the university should not modify their calendars to replace class, minimizing expenses. All the competent authorities will be prepared to the logistics and security of these three days, reason why the government of the city declared these three days like civic to avoid conflicts and stagnation of the city. Finally, all involved should take this opportunity as a time of reflection and remember that the main purpose of the institution is to generate the country's progress from ethics and values, whether believing or unbelieving.

Retire academic activities through visit´s pope

The big majority of population in Colombia practice the Catholic faith from long time ago, it´s from the event called Spanish conquered. This fact denote significantly to all region in many aspects, primordially in the faith which incursion, not only on the way to see life, if not on the way to act and coexist daily too. For that reason, today the representation in person of all of these customs and beliefs is so important to much people. With that in mind, the pope arrival to our land not just will denote a new phase of hope and model life style for their followers, if not it will have a big impact in aspects not so rooted to our identity nay to daily needs of all citizens general.

At first place, we can find the public transport, which take part on the daily mobilization on the major part of citizens. How it´s know, the pope arrives the 6 September to Bogotá City at the afternoon. This will have a special welcome from thousands of followers along the 26th Avenue, which affects seriously the movement of thousands and thousands of people that want to go to home. From people mentioned previously a lot probably belong to University so, for not to fault to their afternoon classes, they will have to wait to late hours at night, and there is where the problem appears because the University surroundings are so dangerous at this moment because represent a big trouble for integrity of anyone. This obligates to students to leave the University more early than custom implying a retard on class’s topics, so it´s better to postpone the activities no matter if it represents a bleed on the program course.

Similarity, the Thursday 8, the pope will tour the city and will visit specific points where a big amount of persons will have meeting to witness a Eucharistic ceremony. Now, all of us know that University have a laic character, but it don’t means that within students population and teaching plant have not person with the intention of witness the Eucharist leader by the pope. In part, it could not be a valid argument to cancel any academic activity at University, but we can see that it not will be the only argument, so to enforce this argument, it´s important to see the same problem from the Wednesday. Therefore, at Thursday, the student will have problems of traffic all the day and move to and from university will be a Calvary. In contrast, I think it´s no necessary to cancel academic activities at Friday, because the pope will go to another city, Villavicencio, so his presence don´t will have consequences on Bogotá.

To conclude, it´s important to recognize, like it or not, that in a Country with a Catholic majority the pope visits have a big impact in the society either for good or for bad, depending of the point of view.

The Pope is an important person for the Catholics and Colombia is a country which the majority of the people practice this religion. Because of the visit of this person, there is not going to be transportation near to the university, this is why students can´t arrive at university these Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. instead, the university must cancel class.

The majority of the students of Los Andes university live in the north, this part of the city is far away from the downtown, where the university is located.
