I deliberately used oil pastel in the background to add some color to the black and white book pages. From there I wanted to add different, small patterns which ended in a collage effect. As part of the pattern I cut out triangle shapes of colored magazine pages and I intuitively pasted them in the corners. I also included a big pink flower which commonly floats atop lillypads. The yellowish colors in the background reminded me of colored fish swimming below the water. Instead of drawing literal fish I tried to create the feeling of fish. I received good feedback from my peers. They liked the negative space in the middle because it broke up the large focal points that were equally sized. I was also recommended to add more sharpie detail on the lillypads since those are the main points. The climax sized shapes of the green circles work together to frame the light colors in the middle. I initially wanted to chose a projection that was dark such as black and white stripes but I ended up going with something more bright which reflects me and my personality - I love bright and happy colors. When drawing I changed the sun into more of a flower. Before this class I wasn't very good at faces, they looked very basic - like something an elementary student could easily do. With the exercises we did in class I now take my time. Many times during the semester I would easily want to finish a piece right away which would cause me to make large, messy lines with my pencil when shading.
