The Houston Rockets were started in 1971 and became an NBA team. One of their best early players was Calvin Murphy. He was short for a basketball player, only 5'9", but he was really fast and could shoot really well. Fans loved him, and he later made it into the Hall of Fame.

Between 1980 and 1990, the Houston Rockets had some good and bad seasons. They made it to the NBA Finals in 1981. In the late 1980s, Don Chaney became the team’s head coach.
