The people involved with coffee are a huge factor, because people are the reason why coffee is the second largest commodity in the world and a multi billion dollar industry. The high demand is why there is such a drive to use processes that are bad for the environment to produce a high quantity of coffee to keep up with the high demand of consumers. If the demand was lower, coffee could be produced in more sustainable conditions.

The environment is impacted by coffee production because all of the waste from extracting the coffee beans gets dumped into the water supply, thus wreaking havoc on plant life and wild life in the water. Deforestation is also a major factor with coffee production because farms will plow down all forests so that coffee can be the only tree in the area and produce only coffee beans, which not only decreases the forests but also destroys so much wild life and plant life in the process. The rapid production of coffee to keep up with the high demand is clearly detrimental to our natural resources until we find a more healthy, sustainable way to produce such a large amount of coffee.
