· Arrange venue and prepare for Y.E.P. Opening Night in conjunction with Book Week

·  Provide reading info for our marketers and participants

Some points to assist with this are;

•  It is very important to allow the reader to choose their own book. If their first decision isn’t all they expected it to be,   please allow them to exchange and start another book. If they are having too much   trouble, please look for assistance   from your librarian.

•The reader & listener may have turns at reading and is the decision of the young person. If the young person is listening, please have them follow the words as you read.

•  Always let them hold the book and try very hard not to touch the book or point to words.

•  If the reader makes a mistake, and it has no real bearing on the meaning of the text, just let it pass. Usually, they will come   across the word again and realise their mistake having had the word appear in two   or three different contexts.

•  If a mistake drastically alters the meaning of the text, you may draw attention to it, not by pointing to the word but   perhaps by asking them to break it down into syllables, sound it or ask if the word reminds them of any other words.

•  If your reader really wants your help and specifically asks you to tell them the pronunciation, please do so.

•  Sometimes your young person will read and read without knowing anything about the story. At least once or twice and at   appropriate points, please stop and have a little chat about the progression of the story.

•  If it is clear no meaning is being gained from the reading, please liaise with your librarian at the end of the session for further instructions to assist you help your reader to improve.

•  At the end of the session, please date and complete the reader’s progress card.
