      <description>An experienced teacher in West Hills, California, James Shelburne held a number of educational roles with LAUSD between 1975 and 2012. He initially worked from the school’s West Los Angeles campus but relocated to Woodland Hills in 1994. In addition to teaching academic courses such as math and science, he spent time as a physical education and woodworking teacher. In addition to his work as a teacher, James Shelburne also served LAUSD by facilitating the school’s leadership class, which completed a number of campus beautification projects and provided campus tours.

Mr. Shelburne studied history at the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with his bachelor of arts in 1974. He continued his education at California State University, Northridge, earning a single-subject teaching credential in history. In 1982, he received a credential from California State University, Los Angeles, as a special education instructor.

Outside of his teaching activities, Mr. Shelburne’s personal interests include gardening and making wine. He has been an organizer with Chi Gardeners for 15 years.</description>

Formerly handwritten documents are now digitalized, and assignments now require students to research on the internet rather than in physical libraries. Today, children are increasingly interested in swiping screens; therefore, teachers and educators must help them navigate this relative novelty.</div>]]></description>
