Q1. My impression of Beta Sydney is that he is trying to destroy the perfection of the society by visiting his understudy. This can be seen from Beta Sydney's thoughts"If the HR knew what he was doing know, they'd have his skin.'' The phrase'' they'd have his skin'' suggests that he was going to get into trouble for visiting his understudy which was  against the law.The phrase ''what he was doing now'' suggests that he was visiting his principal even though it was a severe breach of the rules.Therefore Beta Sydney was trying to break the rules.

Q1: My impression of Beta Sydney is that he is a defiant person. This can be seen from him breaking the severe breach of rules. Beta Sydney even talked to an old Eurasian man who is the principal's neighbour. 
If everyone breaks the rules like Beta Sydney, the world would be chaotic and the government would have no authorities.Therefore, I can see that Beta Sydney is a rebellious understudy as he went AGAINST THE RULES.

1My impression of Beta Sydney is that he is rebellious as he did not follow the rules .This can be seen from "if HR know what he was doing now,they'd have his skin,he thought ". The phrase "have his skin" suggests that Beta Sydney was not following the rules and was not doing what he was suppose to do. Therefore, if the HR knew what he was doing, he would be dead. Thus, we can conclude that Beta Sydney is rebellious and do not follow the rules given to him.

Q1: My impression of Beta Sydney in this extract is that he is wilful as he defied rules that were meant for understudies. He was not supposed to visit his principal but he still did even though he knew he was not supposed to.  This can be seen from his severe breaching of rules when he wanted to visit his principal, Sydney. We can see this from "They were not supposed to visit their principles... Still, beta Sydney felt he had to do it." The phrase "Were not supposed to visit their principals," suggests that beta Sydney did not follow the rules as an understudy and was going to visit his principal. The phrase," Still, Beta Sydney felt that he had to do it,"  suggest that Beta Sydney was defying openly and doing this his own way. Therefore, Beta Sydney is wilful as he openly defied the rules and did things the way he wanted.

Q2: Yes, the different side to Beta Sydney is that he is disobedient to the government. He did what he wanted, defied the rules openly that the government implemented to prevent any potential threats. This can be seen from, " Were not supposed to visit their principal, ... Beta Sydney felt that he had to do it."  Sydney did it even though he knew it was a severe breach of the rules. He did not listen to the government.

A: Yes, I feel that Beta Sydney's is showing a different side towards the HR, defying them, compared to previously.

This can be seen from when Beta Sydney was acting unplanned as Sydney Wong, "If HR knew what I was doing now, they'd have my skin. Somehow, that thought seems comforting"

The phrase "have my skin" shows that Beta Sydney is fully aware of the consequences of his actions, yet he still continues to do them, proving that he no longer fears or feels threatened  by HR, unlike before. 
The word "comforting" suggests that Beta Sydney does not feel uncomfortable around HR anymore, and does not feel vulnerable around them. 

Therefore, I think Beta Sydney has changed drastically, and has grown more confident of himself, giving HR an attitude by choosing to breach their rules.

ANS : Yes. In my opinion , he has changed drastically . This can be found in  the sentences from  " They were not supposed to visit their principals . It was a severe breach of rules . Still Beta Sydney felt he had to do it ...If HR knew what he was doing now, they would have his skin. " 

The phrase " not supposed to visit their principals ... severe breach of rules  "
Beta Sydney was breaking and disobeying the most important rules which was meeting your principal and as he was not supposed to visit his principal (Sydney Wong) . However , he still did it . Previously, he was being loyal to the govement. Now , he is being rebellious . This one of the  evidence showing that he has changed a lot. 

The phrase " felt that he had to do it ... would have his skin "
Despite the severe punishment he would recieve , he took the risk of meeting his principal. From these both evidences , I can see that Beta Sydney is being rebellious and has changed  lot .
