How do you evaluate the fact that there are no specific regulations regarding feeding animals at Bilkent?

I don’t think the university expected something like this to happen, which is probably why they haven’t established a regulation yet. However, from now on, I believe they should create a detailed policy to prevent similar incidents in the future.

I think there are people who dislike animals. We sometimes come across them on social media, they steal food bowls from street animals and tear down their shelters.

our question: How did the incident of the fox/dog grave in Bilkent affect students’ views on animal rights?

The incident made students more aware of animal rights and the need to protect stray animals on campus. It also encouraged many people to be more sensitive and responsible toward animals.

The Rectorate sent an email addressing the incident. Do you think their statement was sufficient?

It is good that the Rectorate acknowledged the issue and promised to cooperate with the Animal Friends Club. However, most students expect concrete action such as toxicology checks, more cameras, and stronger animal protection policies. Words alone are not enough.

There Used to be Dogs In Front of my Dorm

Least week, dogs and foxes of Bilkent Campus found death in the forest of the University. The event caused discussions on what happened, who did it and who should we blame. The news flow through internet; Apostro mention the unacceptable deaths and school radio RadyoBilkent informed people on how to protect the campus animals. On our way to investigate the case, Senior year Psychology Student Ayşin Aytatlı stated that dogs use to be in front of her dorm or ones who she hear their voices in the night is not here this year. The unexpected death of these animals got eyes turn to School administration, campus people believe it is possible to live in peace with campus animals but administration must take responsibility and action.

What do you feel about it?

Ayşin: it is Teriable; unexpected and unacceptable for Bilkent Campus. In the Past There were dogs in the font of my dorm, we were also hearing their voices from the forest, they were scary.

Did dogs were here last semester?

A:No I don’t hear them anymore.

Do you think what happened is related to absence of dogs?

A:I don’t think anyone from campus would do that yet it feels like a planed event.

Geçen haftalarda okulumuzda yaşananan tilki ve köpek ölümleri hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Zehirli yiyeceklerin tilkilerin yoğun olduğu bir yerde bulunması dikkat çekici ve şüphe uyandırıcı fakat bu olayın failini bulmaya çalışmak dikkatimizi dağıtıyor. Motife odaklanmamız gerektiğini düşünüyorum. Olayın kim tarafından gerçekleştirildiğinden ziyade bu olayların neden olduğunu ve nasıl önleyebileceğimizi düşünmemiz ve bunun üstünde çalışmamız lazım.

Who do you think might be responsible for the animal poisoning on the Bilkent University campus, and what are your thoughts about it?

İpek and Xaina said they first heard about the animal poisoning on Instagram. İpek mentioned that she initially thought the university might have done it “to reduce the number of wild animals on campus,” but after realizing it happened around the Mayfest area, she “started to doubt that it could have been someone else.” Xaina agreed that if the university had done it, “they should have handled it more properly and ethically,” but she also admitted that “because it was during Mayfest, it’s hard to be sure who was actually responsible.” They also thought that the university wouldn’t put poisonous food in an area full of children and domestic animals.

‘’Bilkent’teki hayvanların birileri tarafından öldürüldüğünü düşünüyorum. Bu kasıtlı yapılmış bir şey.’’

Bilkent Üniversitesi son günlerde ani hayvan ölümleri ile gündemde. Tilki ve köpeklerin öldüğü bu olayda, olayın sorumlularına henüz ulaşılamadı. Konu ile ilgi açıklama yapan Bilkent Üniversitesi Rektörlüğü bu durum ile herhangi bir alakası olmadığını belirtirken, olayın takipçisi olacaklarını açıkladı. Üniversite öğrencilerinden Umutcan Baran, hayvanların kasıtlı olarak öldürüldüğünü ve okul yönetiminin bu konuya açıklık getirmesi gerektiğini düşünüyor.
