When I was hired as fixed-time "organico di potenziamento" I could not imagine my role and assignments. I was entrusted with three jobs whose one was teaching Geography through CLIL to the first classes of a junior high school. I have never known CLIL before, I did not have any helpful textbooks, any help from the colleagues of Geography. I had only two weeks to trace ideas and materials and to adapt them to the level of these classes, to plan a teaching unit lasting 5 weeks including a middle and a final test. That was a great challenge for me, certainly! But my passion surpassed my worries: even if my head fills with questions and doubts, my heart knows its goal: to make my students eager to discover and learn thanks to a revolutionary way of teaching: CLIL methodology.To begin with, I chose topics captivating for eleven-years-old students, something belonging to their life but maybe do not know enough: Naples and its patrimony, divided into 5 modules: several touristic information on Naples, the history of pizza, Naples on foot (the ancient steps of Pedamentina) , Vesevus, Pompeii. nalyavi82 https://padlet.com/nalyavi82/f2567b1mst7t/wish/147266391 2017-01-15 21:53:55 UTC https://padlet.com/nalyavi82/f2567b1mst7t/wish/147266391 MY LESSON PLAN with CLIL nalyavi82 https://padlet.com/nalyavi82/f2567b1mst7t/wish/147266456 I planned my Clil lesson as following:


  • paired and balanced students
  • the exclusive use of L2 
  • foreshadowing of the topic by means of a video.
  • Showing short texts about the topic
  • promoting the elicitation of the key words by means of images
  • fostering some tasks in pair and some in groups (two teams)
  • giving tasks as : match the sentences, true/false sentences, anagrams, open questions
  • correction in pairs or in groups.

At the end of the first lesson, the students gave me a standing ovation!
After this experience, students were really satisfied: they learnt new contents both about their cultural background and linguistic contents (as simple past, partitives, interrogative form, and so on). Since they did the same tasks, they started feeling more confident towards L2; they loved working in pairs and in groups, they learnt a lot by comparing with their mates. They felt as the protagonists of their learning, with a growing motivation and sense of responsability. They wished to try CLIL even with other subjects like Physical Education, Art, History. I hope to teach CLIL again...in the meantime, I enjoy TECHNOCLIL!
