Condoms are one of the most effective ways to protect you and your partner from an STI. It acts as a barrier to protect sperm and infection passing between sexual partners. 
"When condoms are used correctly every time, the pregnancy rate is two out of 100 each year." 

It is just as important to understand how to use them.  How do you use a condom?

  1. Check the packaging making sure the expiry date has not passed
  2. Open the packet carefully from serrated edge (NO teeth or scissors)
  3. Check the condom is the right way up
  4. Pinch the tip of the condom to remove any air
  5. Roll the condom on the hard penis all the way down to the base. It is important that it rolls to ensure you did it the right way.
  6. Use water-based lube 
  7. Make sure to use a new condom and lube each time you have sex
Birth Control
Birth control is a (usually) a pill used to prevent pregnancy and STI's . There are lots of different types of birth control. Some work better than others at preventing pregnancy. It is important to consult a doctor before taking birth control.
