The writing process begins with getting to know students as writers-through their writing! Students feel connected when they get to write about themselves and the teacher can learn from their writing.

The next most important part of the writing process is the freewriting process. Writing is choosing part of the stream of consciousness that goes through the human mind and putting it on paper or a screen. Freewriting is the more organic form of that and there is choice involved: getting to write about a chosen topic and choosing which part of the mind to write about.

Students need interaction around their writing. They also need models of writing and teacher who is willing to be a model of the process.

Students (and teachers) need to collect their thoughts and contribute them to writing.

What comes to my mind when I think about writing process is: Writing process can be as personal to a person and as different as a hair style that a person chooses to wear. There are many different hairstyles that different people wear and a hairstyle that suits one person well may not suit another person. However, hairstyles all have one thing in common, they all have something to do with hair. Like various hairstyles, writing process can be different unique, and personal to each specific individual. People work their writing in different ways and style their writing in different ways.

When I think of the writing process I think of prewriting, brainstorming, drafting, editing, revisions, conferences, and collaboration. The writing process has multiple steps and it looks different for different people. When I write, I like to revise along the way. I reread what I've written multiple times as I'm writing. I know for others, they like to get all of their thoughts down before going back and rereading what they've written. That is just an example of how it can look different for different people.

It starts from the ideas which is eager to burst out from our mind. It is related to our experiences. Our life and value decide the tone and content of our writing. To write sometimes feels like talking to friends and yourself. After finishing chatting, you may reflect (revise) on it and decide what should say and how to express next time. It takes effort and time. It can be struggling and painful. However, after you finish it, you feel refreshed.
