They hate each other so much, that they openly display this. After a fight one day between the two families, the Prince (son of the Royal family that rule Verona) creates a law that if either of them start violence, then they will be killed. 

The image below shows the family crests of both the Montagues (right) and the Capulets (left). This act is merely introducing the conflict between the two families and the way that Verona is ruled (which is by the Royal family). Benvolio, his cousin, and Mercutio, his friend and relative of the Prince, suggest that Romeo go to the Capulet's ball. They think he can get over Rosaline this way. Juliet's father has no idea that they are Montagues, so he lets them in. 

The image below depicts the Capulet's party. A theme explored in this scene is heartache (Romeo mopes about Rosaline). When the party ends Romeo goes look for her where they share a kiss and talk about their future aspirations in relation to their love. What followed was Tybalt (Juliet's cousin) and Mercutio (Romeo's best friend) having a life or death battle where Romeo intended in breaking up the fight but in trying he ended up having Mercutio killed. Now Romeo was enraged and so when Tybalt came back for seconds with the goal of killing Romeo, Romeo killed him. Romeo feels instant regret but at this point it no longer matters and the king banishes him to Mantua for the murder of Tybalt

He climbs out her window the next morning but Juliet's father is telling her that they have arranged the wedding for her to marry County Paris. Her father rages at her for refusing the marriage and tells her that if she doesn't, she will throw her into the street to beg.

She writes a letter explaining her plan to Romeo where she fakes her death and the family puts her in her funeral monument and gives the letter to the Friar. Her and the Friar set up everything and she takes the potion. Her family realize that she is "dead" and put her in her tomb

Romeo, Friar Lawrence, and Paris rush to get to Juliet's tomb. Paris arrives first and tries to defend her tomb, Romeo kills Paris then proceeds to kill himself.

The theme is fighting for love. Since Romeo killed Paris, who was Juliet's soon to be husband, this was an act of defending his love. Since Juliet sees Romeo dead she doesn't want to leave him, then she decides to kill herself. This shows the theme of true love, she would rather die than live life without her true love. Then at the end the families realize that their feud is silly and they make peace.
