During 1937 the U.S was having many conflicts and not getting along with the Japanese. The U.S later put an embargo act on Japan meaning that the U.S will give the Japanese any supplies or resources. The Japanese was not to happy about this because the Japanese did not have much oil left nor did they have any in their own country. The Japanese knew that they had to do something to survive.
The attack on Pearl Harbor was all planned by a Japanese admiral Isoro Yamamoto. The Japanese said there goal was "to give a fatal blow". The U.S knew that there might be some sort of an attack on U.S territory because of the ongoing problems trying to make peace treaties with the Japanese. The U.S government listed some military bases that may have a chance of getting attacked but Pearl Harbor was not included in the list because of how shallow the waters were at Pearl Harbor they thought that a torpedo could not fit in the waters of Pearl Harbor but the Japanese redesigned the torpedo so it was able to fit in the shallow waters of Pearl Harbor.
The first sign of the Japanese racing into Pearl Harbor was at about 7:00 A.M on a radar. They saw a lot of planes in the air and they were coming right towards them. Some of the more high up American soldiers thought that it was just a few B-17's coming in from some training.
At 7:58 A.M The Command Center finally sent out a radio alert that there is an air raid. American residents watched from their homes in complete awe and disbelief. When the attacks started to die out or diminish they were able to tally up that 2,403 Americans in the military and not in the military were killed. Many people were wounded at the attack. The U.S lost 188 aircraft's and two aircraft carriers. Although many lives were lost many wounded and a ton of assets were also lost the U.S lucked out because there 2 biggest and most important aircraft carriers were out at sea for a mission.
President Theodore Roosevelt declared war on Japan on December 8,1941. When Theodore Roosevelt declared war he was wearing a black armband as a signal of war. President Theodore Roosevelt on a Press conference on December 8th he famously said that "a date that will live in infamy.
Although many bad things happened at Pearl Harbor one of the good things was that the U.S had a ton of new
applications for the armed forces. The U.S received 2,684 applications for joining the military just 2 days after the U.S declared war on Japan.

June 4th 1942 started the Battle of Midway. A battle in that Pacific between the Japanese imperial military and the U.S. Navy this was another air-sea attack with again having aircraft carriers full of planes ruling the ocean battle.
Six months before this battle started these islands were attacked, first on December 7th 1941 which was six months away from the battle of Midway's start.
The Japanese had many great hopes of naturalizing the U.S's powerful Navy forces in the Pacific but it did not go the way that the Japanese had wanted because the American won this war.
This battle was being planned by the Japanese Admiral Isaroku Yamamoto who was commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy, his plan was to do a swift attack using the element of surprise similar to Pearl Harbor he thought that this attack would be of great success and that his numerical advantages would come in handy and that he would decimate the American Navy in the pacific the Japanese had planned to seek out and destroy the fleet starting with the Allied base on Midway island the attack was supposed to be a surprise attack and it was supposed to go as well as pearl harbor this base was almost directly between Japan and the U.S. so it was a powerful island to be held.
They first planned an air attack on the island like pearl harbor they used the aircraft carriers full of planes these carriers included the Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu and Soryu. This fleet was commanded by Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo the next attack planned was a ground assault led by ships and soldiers under the command of Japanese Naval Vice Admiral Nobutake Kondo. The last part of their attack was that when reinforcement arrived for the Allies from Pearl Harbor. A critical strike waiting 600 miles west of Midway.
However since Allied Naval Code breakers intercepted this plan they were well prepared and had the upper hand and then this had helped them to overcome the Japanese and win the battle.

Japanese Take Singapore (February 1942) T.H.

Singapore had been a British colony since the 19th century. In July 1941 the Japanese were able to acquire French Indochina. A day before the attack on Pearl Harbor when the Japanese surprised the U.S and bombed many ships and killed many people the Japanese also killed 61 Singapore citizens from the air. On February 5th 5,000 Japanese troops landed in Singapore to try to make them surrender. The Japanese destroyed many of Singapore's main defensive weapons as in war ships. The attack started in Malaya the northern part of Singapore. On Singapore's end there was a lot of miscalculations and the communication skills there were very poor which led to Japs taking out many of there ships and there own people. British General Arthur Percival was responsible for the miscalculations led to Japanese destroying many things. He also was in charge in many men he had up to 90,000 men to disposal and could use them to defend their country. He used all of his soldiers to try to defend the basically the impossible to beat Japanese attack he used the men to spread across a 70 mile radius this was proved to be a "fatal mistake" although Singapore had more men they were spread to thin and could not fight the Japs off. Singapore later surrendered to the Japanese because of all the damages Singapore faced. Later the leader of British which Singapore was under rule by he urged his people to boost morale by keeping calm and being poise. Churchill new that the British empire may be at stake after losing Singapore He also said that, that same mindset brought us out of the jaws of death.

Battle of Coral Sea (May 4th- May 8th 1942) A.P.

Today is May 8th the Battle of Coral Sea in the pacific has just ended this is the very first American sea-air battle against the Japanese but certainly won't be the last, this battle has gone on for 4 days now but the Japanese forces does not have any more aircraft left to fight with on their carriers whilst our Allied forces lost many aircraft and ships the Japanese lost more and lost this battle because of strategic battle planning by the commander of the allied fleet Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher, this battle is a result of the relentless and restless attempts of the Japanese to take Port Moresby in South Guinea this is a major city so if the allies would've lost there would be a terrible outcome that might lead to Allied defeat in the war.
Due to good work by allied code breakers the allied forces were able to assemble a fleet in the Coral sea before it was too late. Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher commanded some American ships but also a few British ships the American fleet that he was commanding consisted of Two large aircraft carriers, smaller American warships and a British cruiser force the Japanese had many more ships coming into the battle but the aircraft was really what made the difference between victory and defeat and in the end Allied aircraft defeated the Japanese in the skies therefore winning them the battle, the Japanese also feared they didn't have enough troops for assault on land.
Without air cover the Japanese turned back and the Allies won the battle. After this battle looking back upon it many war experienced people find that there were a large amount of missed opportunities by both sides due to either foolish battle planning. Also the pilots weren't as well trained as they could've been so many things that people could've done is that if they were better trained and had more war experience then they could've been a lot more effective in their attacks against the Japanese empire.
If they had more war experience the battle could've turned out drastically different playing a major role in the war in the pacific because it would have been devastating if the Japanese would've won that battle in the Pacific.

In January 1942 after the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor the United States conceived a plan called the "Joint Army-Navy Bombing Project. This project was meant to bomb industrial centers in Tokyo to cause damage to the enemy. They were trying to weaken the Japanese by destroying their materials and also their confidence. In doing this the United States hoped that it would scare the Japanese and help defend their country. They also hoped that this would show the Allies that they could help out in this war.
The attack planners were looking at different planes to see which one would be best suited to be launched off of an Aircraft Carrier Hornet (CV-8) and it ended up to be the B-25. The B-25's were able to take off on the Aircraft Carrier with ease, although the only problem is that it would be extremely difficult to land them back on the Aircraft Carrier. The B-25's were able to take of with ease from the Aircraft Carrier because they were stripped of any unnecessary equipment to make the planes lighter and that allowed them to take on additional fuel. The planes were also loaded with some extra fuel.
The attack planners agreed on taking off the planes 600 miles East of Tokyo, although if they were discovered they would take off at that very spot and the carrier would head back. From the 17th Bombardment Group, USAAF twenty four planes were drawn for this mission. In early March 1942 the crews that volunteered for the mission started very hard training for the mission that would be extremely dangerous. They did training on flying long distances, flying at night, and they learned how to navigate very well. There training also included how to fly low so that they could approach their targets easier, bombing rapidly, and evasive action to escape problems.
On the ship (Hornet) they loaded 16 B-25's which was the maximum amount that the ship could hold. The United States planned to take off 400 miles from Japan although when they were 650 miles from Japan they were detected by the Japanese and had to take off sooner than planned on the morning of April 18, 1942. The Japanese new they would be coming so prepared for battle. The Japanese did not expect the United States to be flying long-range U.S. Army bombers so they were caught by surprise.
Out of 16 B-25's 15 landed in occupied China and one landed in Vladivostok intact. The Japanese tried to chase down the United States TF-16. Even though the Doolittle Raid didn't cause that much damage it showed the Japanese that the United States could do it.

Japanese Invasion of Southeast Asia in World War 11 J.B.

            Japanese Offensive in Southeast Asia
The Japanese invaded the Malaya Peninsula and that was the first step to take Indonesia's oil fields since the United states imposed an oil embargo on Japan. After the Pearl Harbor attack the Japanese were unstoppable for around a year. The Japanese took over Guam, the Wake Islands, and invaded the Philippines, Burma, the Dutch East Indies, the Malay Peninsula and then a few months later captured Manila, Rangoon, Singapore, and Jakarta. By early 1942 Japan had taken over Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, the Celebes Timor, the Bismarks, the Gilberts, most of the Solomons, and half of New Guinea. For several months American Forces were able to keep control over Bataan and Corregidor in the Philippines.
The Japanese were taking over so many countries and they even dismantled an empire in Southeast Asia in a few weeks. Their offensive gave Japan control of 20 million square miles in the Pacific and Asia. "At its peak the Japanese empire included the Philippines, the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), Indochina (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia), Malaya, Thailand (as an ally), Burma, northern New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and a number of Pacific islands." By the middle of 1942 Japan was ready to attack Australia and was waiting outside the continent/country. Japan was said to be taking over countries with speed and ease.
Invasion of Hong Kong and Occupation of Indochina
Hong Kong became a route to get weapons after Canton was captured by the Japanese in 1938. Battalions of Japanese soldiers invaded Hong Kong on December 8, 1941 and had captured the colony by Christmas Day. The Chinese and British did not put up much fight at all against the Japanese. The Japanese was given a great area to wait out so that they were able to take over French Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos) and then later to take over Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Burma because Germany captured Paris in 1940.
Invasion of the Malay Peninsula and Singapore
Japan's main target in Southeast Asia was Singapore. After the attack on Pearl Harbor the Japanese started to invade Malaya and bomb Singapore. There were many natural resources in Malaya and that was one of the reasons that the Japanese targeted it. The Malaya Peninsula was a great spot for the Japanese to launch an attack for oil on Borneo, Java, and Sumatra. Other than the natural resources in Malaya is was also an important part of Japan's "Outline Plan for the Execution of the Empire's National Policy." The plan was to expand Japan's perimeter from the Kurile down to Wake, Guam, the East Indies, Borneo, Malaya, and up to Burma.
The Japanese thought that there were only 30,000 to 50,000 British and Commonwealth troops in Malaya although there were actually 88,600 men. This could have been really bad for the Japanese because of there under calculation. Yamashita was responsible for the invasion. Malaya's and Singapore's defenses were not ready for war, had bad communication, were poorly trained, and were not properly equipped for war. The Japanese and high ranking British officers were not trained for jungle warfare. Singapore was supposed to be a fortress that could withstand an invasion although it was not prepared for an invasion and they also had a lack of food. The invasion by the Japanese seemed inescapable by late 1941. The British's attempt to defend Malaya and Singapore was to have capitol ships of the US Pacific Fleet guard them, although that was denied by the United States.
Lee Kuan Yew's Account of the Invasion of the Malay Peninsula and Singapore
Just a few hours after the Pearl Harbor attack the Japanese started their attack on Singapore with planes before dawn. The future leader of Singapore is Lee Kuan Yew and he woke up to the sound of bombs exploding. Singapore was caught by surprise and the war with Japan had started. Sixty people were killed and 130 were wounded. The people in Singapore believed that they were going to be a main target, so they decided to go to the countryside of Malaya so that they could be safer from the Japanese. The British thought Singapore was strong enough to stop an attack although Singapore was expecting an attack from the sea, but it ended up to be a land attack.
                    Capture of Singapore
A turning point in history happened on February 2, 1942 when the Japanese entered Singapore. They easily drove out the British and captured the naval base there on February 15th. That was the largest British defeat ever.
            Japanese Take Thailand and Burma
In December 1941, the Japanese took over Thais, and made a treaty with them that allowed Japanese troops to have control of Thailand's sovereignty. Then in 1942 the Japanese went into Burma from Thailand unexpectedly. They had problems with tigers and elephants along the way. The Japanese were getting a lot of victories against the Chinese and British. They finally took over the main town of Yenangyaunh that is near the Burmese oil fields, although the British had destroyed those before they had to withdrawal. The American Volunteer Group, known as the Flying Tigers shot down dozens of Japanese planes. This was the only real resistance that the Japanese had during the Indochina Campaign in Burma.
Capture of Indonesia and Attacks on Australia
The Dutch declared war on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor. On January 1, 1942 the Japanese invaded the Dutch East Indies to help create the Greater East Asia Coprosperity Sphere. At the end of February 1942 the Japanese were in the Battle of the Java Sea and defeated American, British and Dutch forces. Japan was able to break the Allied defense perimeter because of this victory and therefore drive the Allied Naval forces out of Southeast Asia. This extended the Japanese control into what is now Indonesia.
On February 19, 1942 Japan started their attack on Australia. The Japanese used planes to bomb Darwin and Queensland many times. American and Australian engineers built a 1,000 mile long road that connected Mount Isa and Darwin which linked North and South Australia because they were afraid that the Japanese would invade.
