The North and the South had issues as well. The South wanted their slaves to be counted as part of their population, but they were technically considered as property. The North wanted the South to have to pay taxes for their slaves. They did not want slaves to count as representation. They settled on the 3/5 compromise which means that 3/5 of a states slaves is counted as population, and 3/5 is for taxes.

Because the northern states were more industrial, they wanted to regulate trade to make the economy run more smoothly. The south however, did not agree to regulate trade because they feared that it would threaten the sale of slaves. They decided that the north would wait 20 years before discussing trade.
