I feel that repetition is important in keeping a piece organic sounding. I do not feel that a straight repetition alone is successful though. For repetition to be truly successful it needs to be built upon, and used as a base for the natural expansion of a piece. Music is like all things it needs a solid base that can be built off. Therefore when repetition is done correctly in some shape or form it really helps a piece flow very smoothly. When you have that natural progression it makes a piece more eloquent, and can allow for something that truly feels natural. While it is true it is not necessary to have this it has been my experience that overall the more repetitive elements a song can incorporate without making them being overbearing on the piece as a whole will result in a better experience for the listener. For example in Ke$ha's We R Who We R the repetition in the beat and with the way the chorus is presented it makes for an extremely cohesive and well put together piece.
