Digestion began as I the burger was eaten by a human being as he started to chew on me using teeth, saliva and tongue. The teeth chewed on me as that is the mechanical/physical breakdown. The saliva and the enzymes in it started to break down and process the pieces left of me. My white bun was broken down by amylase, the tongue pushing me further.

I entered the Pharynx which was the humans back throat. It assisted in swallowing me, as the larynx was raised and the epiglottis was bended on top of the glottis, this helped to propel me further to the esophagus. While travelling I was shaped into a ball called a bolus.

The Esophagus looked like a long tube extending from the pharynx to the stomach. Its function was to lubricate me and the pathway with mucus, which appeared to be a slimy substance. At this point of my journey I experienced something called Peristalsis, wave-like contractions that moved me in the digestive tract combining me with other foods. As I was about to enter the stomach, at the end of the esophagus there was circularly shaped muscle called sphincter that provides a passageway for to move to the stomach, closing right behind me in order to keep from rising back up.

I entered the stomach which somewhat looked like a temporary storage of other foods and liquids. The stomach's lining had glands that produced a hormone gastrin that released gastric juice or stomach acid. Chief cells started to produce pepsinogen and parietal cells produced hydrochloric acid. This last acid helped to turn pepsinogen into pepsin which stimulated protein digestion. Not only but also it made the stomach's ph low. Then I was mixed up with other foods, liquids, and the gastric juices, to produce chyme which Is a semi-fluid of some of the digested food. The ground beef a part of me, was broken down chemically and the rest of me through the pyloric sphincter which was at intersection between the stomach and duodenum. When the sphincter was relaxed then it let me to pass into the duodenum.

Small Intestine: The duodenum was the first part of the small intestine into which I entered. I was in contact with acid chyme coming from the stomach and secretions such as bile salts, enzymes, bicarbonate. The liver produces the bile salts, which is is stored then released by the gallbladder organ entering the small intestine through the bile duct and assisting in digesting the cheese. The hormone secretin encouraged the pancreas to start the production of lipids/enzymes and the liver to produce more bile. Another hormone called cholecystokinin again stimulated the liver to produce more amounts of bile. Cholecystokinin also stimulated the secretion of enzymes by the pancreas. The enzyme enterokinase activated the development of more lipids and protein enzymes in the pancreas. The enterokinase enzyme turned trypsinogen to its active form which was trypsin. Trypsin present in pancreatic juice was released and began to digest my ground beef. A mixture of enzymes called erepsin secreted by the intestinal gland further continued to digest and process my ground beef turning it into amino acid.

The enzymes from the pancreas helped to to digest again my cheese and the white bun. The bicarbonate ions from the pancreas nullified the acid coming from the stomach, lowering the ph, and continued the breaking down of my cheese. In addition to all the things the pancreas produced, the protein lipase contributed to the digestion of my cheese. Then peristalsis began pushing me down to the jejunum.

Jejunum:This was the middle or second part of the small intestine. As I entered I was mixed by segmentations which was a contraction of circular muscles to help digest me. The jejunum was made of of folds of epithelial tissue made for absorbing 90% of me and other accompanying foods. That included my ground beef and bun, while also other vitamins and mineral.

Ileum:

This was the last part of the small intestine. The last remaining nutrients were absorbed here such as water, bile salts, vitamin B12 and including the last pieces left of me. I then headed to the large intestine.

Large Intestine or Colon: the large intestine consisted of three parts.

The Cecum: This part of the large intestine or colon looked like a pouch where I was brought from the Ileum to be stored. It was a long tube consisted of muscles connecting the cecum to the final part of the large intestine which was the rectum.

Ascending Colon: This was the second part of the colon where different fluids were further absorbed and the waste from the digestive processes forms stool . With my own experience, I uncovered that stool was just food debris and bacteria. I was turning from a liquid state to a solid form.

Descending Colon: As more and more stool formed and gathered in the descending colon becoming full, I was transferred into the rectum for temporary storage.
