Making Myself Busy During the No-Classes Days

Productivity is what I passionately deemed as being able to produce a multitude of tasks no matter how hectic my schedule is, however heavy my problems are, whatever difficulties I may experience or even if I feel like I yearn for a peaceful slumber. It is about the idea of having a well-spent day amidst chaos, or even in the middle of turbulent disasters and inclement weather. Last 23rd of October, a suspension of classes buzzed around and I was caught off guard. I knew a night before that the typhoon Kristine would be arriving yet I did not expect that it was a super typhoon. So, I stayed at home and decided to drip sweats of thoughts on my remaining assignments—fueling my genuine hard works, keeping my routines pristine.

It was around midday when I began feeling the cold breeze of the wind. I peeked through my window and I saw those threads of dark ominous clouds atop hued in a mixture of grey and ash. It seemed to look spooky from afar, losing its soft wisps and cottony feature. A weather news flashed in the background was quite audibly loud; it's from our rumbling television that heightened my anxiety at the moment. I heaved a deep sigh at the sight of it for I was a tad bit wary of our properties and kindred there in my ever-loved Bicol region. I hoped for their safety and steadfast prayers. "Would our house there be able to withstand the nature's wrath?"; "Ever-think of the rice plantation to be washed out by the heavy rain?"; "Safe kaya sina lola roon?" "How about those pity carabaos and animals that might be affected and got killed by this devilish disaster?". For I am a Cebuano Visayan-Bicolano and my heart goes for the security of my lads in our hometown. I couldn't really let my worries skedaddle, however, I had to irresistibly compose myself just to focus back. A few hours later than my relapse, I completed several tasks modestly mentioning the action research title proposal in PED 6, also prepped up for presentation in PED 7, and I additionally wrote a poem related to the theme "Metamorphosis". Yes, you've read it right! I composed a poetry that day because I have an eminent plan of joining in an online competition for spoken poetry which will be held in Profwic's Community about nine days to-go, it is an international battle of creative minds spearheaded and organized by Sir Stanley Umuzelike. He is a best-seller author, book publisher and editor from Nigeria. I just simply adore his writing styles and directive advice so I was intrigued and enchanted to participate. Here's a terse view of the rhymes I have incorporated: "Crease may form in our foreheads as we age but it should not entail living a life full of greed. Whatever color, breed or creed, one thing is for sure, when a knife slices through our skin-deep! We still wince and bleed." While I penned down these lines, it burned my heart in deep empathy as if it wanted to skip a beat and jump out of my chest in a teary-eyed state. It reminded me of the concept of humility and humanity especially now that we are drowned in flash floods and swept by landslides due to an enormous typhoon. Truly, humanity needs aid now in these last days and to help starts from humility and love for those who are deeply in need. It was a day, well-spent!

The fading sunlight dipped in the west and as soon as the night came, a heavy downpour of rain toppled over. I had just finished eating my dinner that time when I checked my phone. I saw a post on Facebook, stifling a public advice that the classes would be suspended again for tomorrow. On 24th of October, my mother and I had decided to do a general cleaning in the house. We tidied up the bedsheets, couches, floor, almost every inch of the house. She is quite strict when it comes to cleaning but my sister Gina is more particular than her. We did the laundry together, went hand-in-hand to wet market to buy goods, and we cooked our favorite dish "boiled Pata" with carrots, potatoes, whole corn, and bananas. It was so tasty and perfect for the cold weather! Ensuing, on Thursday night, I went to the chapel to attend in our worship service and I regained a fortitude of strength and enlightenment during these tiring days. By Friday, 25th of October, a bright sun showed up, reassuring me that after a storm, there's still a light of hope to bounce back from downfalls. I prayed to God and asked His divine guidance for the day. Later on, I answered my midterm exam in advanced statistics and I literally spent the whole day on my computer. As bad as it seemed but I had no options but to fully devote a whole day to work on its details meticulously. The exam was above difficult and I had to include proofs of works on Excel as well. To my surprise, I came up with 30 pages in a pdf file just for that one attempt exam. It's aplenty because I enjoyed discovering different techniques in using Excel formulae. My Friday was a full-grinded day! Stupendous! I had a good sleep.

Weekend starts over and my Saturday, 26th, was again a writing day. I have to work on my essay in Math 17-18 under the supervision of Ma'am Julie T. Valencia. I enjoyed writing things so there's nothing I worried about it. I want to keep some good details on my regular days and this task she entrusted us suits best to my likes and skills. I am not so good with words so I hoped that you still bear with me.

Subsequently, my no-classes days were my swarming days. Every hour of it was worthy of appreciation. Those ephemeral days enabled me to reconnect with my introspective thoughts, realize that I valued my loved ones, finished my remaining school works and worried with a purpose. Thus, may all of us be safe in all ways. May all odds be in our favor, and please keep up the faith come what may. My dear friends, classmates, and professors, let's wholeheartedly extend help to the victims of typhoon, and may we all spend our time tactfully with a silver lining of grace and splendor. Life is full of bulky twists and stormy detours, the Earth has devils lurking in the dark ready to devour, but prayers can make us vigilant survivors, so it must be worn in both mind and soul as our protective armor. Isn't it hard to disagree, math warriors? Do not delay. Now is the right time to chase your precious purpose in every open door.
