The power distance is high in China. This is clearly seen and implemented in the early ages of children's lifetime, i.e. by a very important exam at approx. age 7. It divides the sheep from the lambs.

China consists of a very collectivistic culture. The country possesses a one-party rule, and that party is the socialistic party. The country is also communistic, and have very strict laws, such as the one child policy.

However, a contradiction here is that each student is encouraged to strive against the top, and it is not the students of the lower tier in terms of intelligence that are helped; on the contrary, it is the smart kids who are being helped when they are confused and needs guidance. Not the weak students.

Also, China has a high uncertainty avoidance. Again, this is seen in the many laws that the government of China passes through, and the width of the laws are massive (again, the one-child policy)

Taking starting point in the one-child policy, China is a very masculine country. If a couple's first-born child was a girl, they were allowed to have a second child. This has resulted in a skewed statistic: for every female, there are 1.15 males. The masculine value of competition is seen in the educational system.

Very big power distance between subordinates and superiors in China, but it is normal and accepted. They are very driven by success and achievements (masculine society), and work often ranks higher than spending time with family etc. China is generally very long-term orientated, and dedicate themselves to achieving their goals.

This also means that business wise, they like to slowly build up a strong and trustful bond, instead of rushing into deals and negotiations. They are also very much in the collectivism category, rather than individualism.

In China, there is a high level of power distance between employers and employees but also students and teachers. The school system is very different from the one found in western countries, e.g Denmark. We have more of a relaxed relationship with our
teachers and authorities in general, where China, on the other hand, need to respect authorities and obey their orders. Additionally, China is a very masculine country. The equality between men and women is much less significant than compared to a country like Denmark, where mutual respect for the genders is expected. The one child policy that has existed for nearly 50 years is a clear example of the masculine culture; if you were to have a girl, you would be presented with the opportunity of giving her away and have a boy instead.
