Answer 1:

Situation: During my internship at [Company X], I was part of a cross-functional team responsible for launching a new product. The team included members from marketing, product development, and finance, each with different priorities and communication styles. As a result, key misunderstandings arose, particularly between the marketing team and the product development team, which was jeopardizing the project timeline and success.

Task: My task was to bridge the communication gap and ensure both teams had a shared understanding of the product’s key features so they could align their efforts for the product launch.

Action: I initiated and led a meeting where I simplified the product's technical details into clear, non-technical language that the marketing team could understand. I also designed a visual presentation that demonstrated how the product features aligned with customer needs, highlighting the aspects that marketing should emphasise. During the meeting, I actively facilitated discussion, ensuring both teams had the opportunity to express their concerns and ask questions. By mediating, I clarified misunderstandings and aligned both teams toward a common goal.

Result: This intervention had a significant impact: communication between the teams improved immediately, and they began collaborating seamlessly. The marketing team used the insights from the meeting to create a highly targeted campaign that resonated well with customers. Ultimately, the product launch was a success, completed three weeks ahead of schedule, and it exceeded initial sales targets by 15% in the first quarter. Senior leadership personally praised my communication efforts.

Answer 2:

At my previous job, I was working with a team on a group project.

Task: We were tasked with launching a product. There were some misunderstandings between the departments, and things weren’t going well. We took initiative to communicate better with the teams.

Action: So, we talked to them and explained our ideas again. I also listened to them. We had a conversation about what needed to be done.

Result: After the conversation, things improved a little bit. The project moved forward, but it was still challenging. I think I communicated well, but we could have done better as a team.
