The Graphic Novel Book club is a program that is intended for reluctant readers to fall in love with reading. Graphic novels are a great way to make reading more exciting for kids who are reluctant.

The program is intended for kids aged 9-12, but can be easily reworked to fit any age range.

At the public library, we see all kinds of young readers: kids who read anything they can get their hands on, to kids who refuse to read and see it as a chore. For this age range especially, high school is looming right around the corner where they will be expected to read more complex material. Graphic novels will hopefully encourage them to read more traditional books.

These books will be great introductions and connections for my littles.

I focused on three of the fifteen Elementary Battle of the Book titles on the 2019-2020 list. My intended audience is current 4th and 5th grade students. I chose this topic because this year I will be forming a brand new EBOB team and thought it would be great to have materials to get students interested. Many kids are intimidated by the requirements to make the team. I am hopeful some students will hear these talks, or see my book trailer and decide to give at least one book a try.
*I'll be posting my link when it finishes uploading (we are currently at 50 minutes and it's about 40% complete) - also you can definitely tell I am still in the learning stages of production. With practice I hope to improve greatly! I can ask the students to be on the look out for bloopers :)

Candice Godfrey
Theme: Overcoming Adversity
Intended Audience: Elementary Age children in grades 3-5
Purpose: I chose this topic because I feel like all students struggle. Some struggle with physical disabilities. Others struggle may struggle with more private, unseen issues. I chose this because I know this coming school year, I have a deaf student. I also have a student with behavioral issues. I chose these books because they are books I can use this year with my students and hopefully bring about some unity.
**Sidenote - I have room for a lot of improvement. I did not have the best lighting. I found that I could not use my public library this week because of a program that is going on. My school library is still locked up tight for the summer. My only option was the room in my house that lighting is not good in. In the future, I need to find alternate locations if I cannot get in to the library. Also, videoing myself makes me very nervous.
