Throughout all my moves the hockey community was consistent for me and gave me a home away from home. I was my parents were willing to give me those opportunities. In 2013 I was in 8th grade living in Woodbridge, Virginia when my Father got transferred to Kodiak, Alaska. A smaller island with a beautiful community. Unfortunately with this small remote community, the funds for gear were never an option. After seeing how beneficial the hockey swap had been in VA my parents decided to ask for donated gear through the entire summer so that when we moved up there we also brought with us two full moving crates of old hockey gear to help jumpstart a hungry program. When I skated there I got to help coach and grow the game while having snow blowing in from the Alaskan winters. Today Kodiak has an adult league and multiple kids' teams for all ages as well as full indoor facility. While this player, Luke Prokop is a role model for future generations he should not be alone up there. The pride night within the NHL has become a controversial topic due to players refusing to wear the rainbow pride jerseys.
